Jack Avery
I wake up to my alarm going off. I hear Zach groan and I turn it off.
"Good morning," I mumble.
"'Morning." He replies.
"We've got school today. We have to get up." I remind him.
"Ugh, fine."
We get up and I give Zach clothes so he can shower in the hall bathroom. I shower in my own room and change there. I throw on a black shirt and black ripped jeans. I put on white vans and grab my jacket. I meet him back in my room and I hand him his bag.
"Do you wanna stop for coffee?" Zach asks.
"Uh, sure," I say.
"Wait. Jack, will you wear my letterman jacket? I mean, people are gonna know we're dating so we might as well show it off." Zach says shrugging.
"Sure, why not?" I say after thinking for a minute.
He smiles and tosses it to me. I put it on and the sleeves go way past my hands, as Zach was taller and had longer arms than me.
"It looks good on you." He compliments.
I give him a small smile and we walk out together. He drives to a Starbucks and goes through the drive-through, getting our coffees. After that, he drives us to school. He parks and turns to me.
"Ready?" He asks.
"Ready," I say nodding.
He smiles and we get out. He holds my hand and we walk in. We get stares, but Zach doesn't seem to care. I hear whispers, but none of that seems to matter now. Not when I'm with him.
"See? I told you it was gonna be ok." Zach says.
"Hey, guys," Jonah says walking with Corbyn and Daniel up to Zach's locker.
"How're you doing?" Corbyn asks.
"Good. Better now." I answer, taking a breath.
"Good," Daniel says. Then the bell rings and Jonah sighs.
"Come on. Let's get to class." He says.
"Yeah." Zach agrees.
We all make our way to homeroom and talk the whole time. We sat near the back and I mostly listen. I was never really good at small talk. I listen to their stories and I actually learn a lot about all of them. Daniel had 2 brothers and a sister, Corbyn had a sister and a brother, and Jonah had 2 sisters and a brother. The bell rang and Zach and I walked to History together. I try not to listen to the whispers to see the people stare, but I can't help it.
"Hey," Zach says when we get to my locker. "You're ok. It's ok. I promise it's gonna be fine."
He leans in and presses his lips against mine. "Okay?" He asks.
I nod and give him a small smile. "Okay."
We make it through the first half of the day without any issues. Zach and I walk to lunch, hand in hand. Jonah, Corbyn, and Daniel meet us there. I see Jonah and Corbyn's hands brush as they all walk.
"How's it going?" Daniel asks, sitting next to me.
"Honestly, pretty good. I didn't think it would be this easy." I reply with a slight shrug.
"Like I told you. I don't care what anyone else says about us. I just want you." Zach says.
I smile at him and he kisses me.
