My face completely dropped as Sam said those words. I could feel my chest tightening as though I was being suffocated. "What? Why what happened?" I managed to get out after a few seconds of silence. "He's in jail Kendall, he went insane at Michael for what he did to you, I had to physically pull him off him" Sam told me. "Shit!" I yelled placing my hand on my forehead in dispair. "Is Michael alright?" I asked not because I cared but because the more injured he is the worse it's going to be for Jack. "Well he's completely battered but he'll survive if that's what your asking. He might not have though if I didn't come along. I'm pretty sure Jack would have killed him if I didn't get there when I did" Sam told me.

I sighed deeply, leaning against the door for balance because I was starting to feel slightly light headed from all this commotion. "So he's in jail right now?" I asked Sam, looking for confirmation. "Yeah I just went to see him there and they're going to keep him there all night unless somone pays his bail"  He told me. I shot up in to an upright position. "Then what are you doing here? Go bail him out?" I told Sam in a frustrated tone. "Kendall it's 50,000.." Sam told me. "What? Just for an assault?" I asked him. "Well it's not his first offence" Sam told me. I groaned. "Jesus Christ Jack" I said to myself.

"What about his parents?" I asked frantically. "They're both at conferences in Europe, they don't know" Sam told me. I stood there in my own defeated silence. "What are we meant to do now?" I asked. Sam shrugged. "I don't know, if we can't pay the bail there isn't much else we can do" He told us. I stood there in my own thought for a moment. "I know exactly what I can do" I told them grabbing my jacket before grabbing my car keys and heading out the door. "Kendall, where are you going?" Sam called after me. "To fix this mess!" I called back, halfway in the car.

I stepped on the gas, speeding down the road still in my prom dress. I drove as fast as I could until I reached the bank. It was closed but there was an ATM machine right beside. I parked the car practically on the pavement before running to the ATM. I pushed my card in, typing in my pin before typing in a transaction on 50,000. This was the money I was saving to pay for accommodation for college next year, but I owe Jack this.

They wouldn't let me 50,000 all in one go so I had to withdraw in 1,000s which took a good 20 minutes. When I finally got all the money I needed, I ran back to the car to make my way to the police station. Thankfully it was less than 5 minutes down the street but 5 minutes was a long time in jail minutes. I ran out of breath through the door of the station. I got a variety of strange looks from the officers on duty. "Can I help you miss?" The officer asked me. "Yes, I'm here to bail out Jack Gilinsky, he was arrested for assault earlier tonight" I told the man. He scrolled though his computer for a minute. "Yes, his bail is 50,000 are you aware of this?" He asked me raising an eyebrow. "Yeah I have it here" I said dropping the large handful of 100 dollar bills on the desk. He grabbed it all and began counting. I tapped on the counter impatiently, just wanting to get Jack out of there. "Yeah looks like it's all there...Jim, will you show this woman to Mr Gilinsky please?" He said to the officer across the room.

The officer got up. "Follow me Ma'am" He said gesturing for me to follow him. I briskly followed him as he went in all directions down damp corridors with depressing grey walls. We walked past a few cells with people sitting the benches. The guard stopped before he came to one of the cells. "He's in there" He said pointing to the cell door. He walked up to it and unlocked it as I stood anxious behind the wall so Jack couldn't see me. "What's going on?" Jack asked him. "You're being bailed out" The officer told him. "By who?" Jack asked in a croaky tone. He ignored Jack walking back over to me. "You can go in now" He told me. I nodded before stepping out from behind the wall to face Jack. When I looked at him he was sitting down on the bench, one hand resting on his knee and the other holding an ice pack to his face. He looked up at me in angry confusion it seemed when he say me standing there.

"Hey.." I said, unsure of how else to begin a conversation with him. "Hi" He said back still holding the ice pack to his jaw. I stood there awkwardly fidgeting with the ends of my dress. "You didn't have to do that, you know bail me out" Jack said after a long pause. I shook my head silently. "It was the least I could do, it's my fault you're in here in the first place" I told him sitting down beside him. "It's not your fault, how were you suppose to know that guy was a total creep" He told me. "Why did you do it?" I asked him. "Just impulse I guess besides why wouldn't I do it?" He told me. "I don't know just thought you hated me" I said almost inaudibly. "Doesn't mean I'm going to let you get attacked" He said. I nodded biting my lip, dishearted that he didn't deny the fact that he hated me. "Besides I don't hate you..I could never hate you" He said, the last part more silent than the first. I sat there unsure of how to respond. "Come on, let me drive you home" I said standing up. "No it's fine I'll walk" Jack said, clearing his throat. "I'm obviously not going to let you walk home after tonight" I insisted.

"Okay fine" He said giving in. We spent about 20 minutes filling out some paperwork but besides that Jack was free to go. We both got into the car, me into the drivers' seat and Jack in the passenger seat. He groaned. "God this is so emasculating" He said slouching into the chair. "Jack, you literally just kicked the shit out of someone and you're feeling emasculated because your not driving?" I said raising an eyebrow at him. He chuckled before shaking his head.

We drove for about a mile in near silence with just the slight noise of the radio in the background before Jack spoke again. "I'm going to pay you back you know" He said in a pensive tone. "Jack you don't have to do th-" I began. "I don't care, I'm paying you back every last cent if it's the last thing I do" He persisted. I just shot him a slight smile. It was sweet of him to say but they're was no chance he was going to be able to pay me back 50,000 in the near future.

As the tension of the night began to die down, I could feel my muscles relax. "So what's your plans for college?" I asked Jack glancing quickly at him before looking at the road again. He shrugged. "Haven't really thought that much about it really" He said. I laughed to myself at how typically Jack that was. "How about you?" He asked, glancing at me. "I was going to go to NYU but I doubt I will now" I told him. "Why not?" He asked me frowning. "Em, just a lot of complications and stuff, apartments are super expensive there and I don't think I can afford it, but it doesn't matter I have other options" I said shrugging. "I thought NYU was your plan though?" He asked me. I sighed, "Yeah well sometimes plans just don't work out" I said shrugging.

We drove the rest of the way in silence until we got to Jacks' house. We sat there for a moment. "Thanks for bailing me out" Jack said. "Thanks for saving me" I said smiling to the side. He laughed. "Don't worry, I'm used to it" He said winking at me, which made me blush slightly. I moved my face away so he didn't see. "Are you going to be okay?" I asked him. "Yeah, I'll be fine, see you around Kendall" He said before getting out of the car. I watched him until he closed the door before driving away.
