Who You Once Were

Though a new life was being brought into the world, Sadie stayed in the doorway of the shelter as she watched 10k intently with saddened eyes. The teen boy coughed, sputtering up blood as his mouth was ravaged by the taste of strong metallic. The sight was enough to make Sadie turn away, tears burning her eyes as she covered her mouth as if being able to taste the blood herself. She felt helpless, not wanting to lose 10k this way as she went to confront Warren where the others were.

"We need to do something!" Sadie pleaded to the woman as she sighed, "I know. But what choice do we have?" Vasquez frowned, "Meds. That's the only way he'll get better. He won't get enough sharing between the others." Warren and Sadie looked at him, "Are you suggesting we-" Sadie chimed in, "It could be our only choice." She looked at Warren, pleading with her through her eyes as Warren nodded, lowering her head. The two women agreed to rob the medication in order to save 10k's life, Sadie pulling her revolver while Warren had her own firearm ready. It was something neither of them would normally do, they had morals but 10k was not a sacrifice they were willing to make.

As they approached the shelter, it was like the folks knew what they were coming for as Sadie hesitated even lifting her gun while Warren reasoned. In the end, the medication was handed over, though the feeling of guilt didn't waver. Sadie helped get 10k to the barn, lying him down in the hay beside a collapsed Addy who had also caught anthrax in their scuffle with Zs. Sadie stayed by 10k, trying to alleviate some of his discomforts by singing to him - the same thing she had been doing when he first spied her during her performance. Her fingers brushed over the back of his gloved hand, singing through her worried tears.

It was only a few short minutes before she heard the mild cries of a baby, knowing Serena had given birth but her focus was on 10k and his condition, "Please be okay.." She murmured to him. As always, in the apocalypse, nothing ever stayed quiet for long as Zs made their way into the barn as Addy and 10k had to be rushed out while Serena sacrificed herself to save Murphy and their baby. The somber feeling the air was thick enough to cut with a knife, the group now gathered around the truck they took as 10k was propped up in the bed. Addy was now doing better but Sadie worried about the sniper before her as she held onto the antibiotics with a death grip. When his eyes opened and he looked around, a sense of relief filled everyone, "Did she have the baby?" He mumbled as they chuckled, his eyes falling on Sadie, "Hey.." He smiled weakly as he reached out to brush his fingers over her hand. Addy looked at him, "Glad to have you back." She handed him a box as he seemed confused, "A gift." She muttered with a smirk, "Don't worry, we won't let you die a virgin." He looked at the box.

Condoms.

His face brightened a hue of pink as he looked at Addy, smiling as he found it funny though his eyes flickered to Sadie who also wore a smile, giggling as well, "Thanks, Addy.." He muttered, hiding the box away in his vest pocket.

Once they were back on the road, the whole anthrax dilemma had brought the two younger members closer as they thought of themselves as just close friends. Two people wh could confide in each other as they joked and poked fun at each other while also helping one another through wounds and survival. Sadie had been tending to 10k's anthrax scars and sores while he healed, the two talking whenever she sat town to take care of him. Warren sat by Doc, looking over at the older gentleman, "Have you ever seen him this.. talkative?" Doc shook his head, "Not to much of anyone. Hell, I think I'm the one he usually talks the most to but I think girly has me beat by now." Warren sipped her canteen, jutting a finger in there direction as the two were too caught up in chatter to notice, "You think there's something there?" Doc raised a brow, "As sure as the sky is blue, chief."
