Labour Day marks the end of summer vacation for Canadian students. It is time to start a new school year.

For most students, going back to school is annoying. They want to get out of there as quickly as they possibly can-especially those who will be graduating in June.

For others, the first day of school is exciting-especially for those who haven't seen their friends all summer.

However, the grade nines might feel a little differently since they are experiencing a significant transition. Being a freshman in high school is nerve-wracking. So sophmores, juniors and seniors should cut them some slack.

High school is not at all the same as what they portray in movies or tv shows. You don't need to worry about bullies stealing lunch money or getting your head dunked in a toilet.

High school is hard to describe. One thing that will struck you the most though is that four years flies by very, very quickly. So make the best of it. Make new friends by joining teams or clubs. Treat everyone with respect, especially your teachers. Do not be afraid to put yourself out there, and always remember that your education is a privilege so take it seriously.
