Susan continues working on the food, "You should've left before sundown."
Max groans, "That wasn't one of your conditions."
Susan looks at her daughter, "And you didn't ask to go after sundown."
Max's brows furrow, "Fine." She huffs and heads to her room with her skateboard in hand.
The telephone rings loudly and Max quickly goes to get it, shouting "Got it!" Before Susan could answer it first.
Lucas Sinclair had promised to call after he ate dinner and she was more than excited to talk to him.
With a smile she answers, "Hello?"
But what she didn't expect to hear was a female voice, "Max?" Sniffs are heard from the other side and she instantly recognizes the voice.
"Sam?" Max asks worried with furrowed brows.
Another sniff is heard on the other side, "I..." a small sob comes from the other side, "Is Billy home?" Sam's voice breaks and now Max is officially worried.
"I think so," Max stops herself and quietly whispers into the phone, "Are you okay?"
A shaky breath comes from Sam, "Can you go get Billy?"
"Okay, give me a second." With that Max takes the telephone and heads to Billy's room.
Loud music blasts from his room and Max questions how he hasn't gone deaf before she knocks on his door.
After seconds without reply Max rolls her eyes and knocks again, pounding on the door. Max hears Billy get closer to the door as she takes a step back.
Billy opens the door with a cigarette hanging from his lips and loud music pounding behind him. "What do you want?" He barks.
Max rolls her eyes, "Turn that down."
Billy doesn't make any effort to tone it down but instead takes a drag of the cigarette.
Max sighs and holds the phone up to Billy, "The call. It's for you."
Billy rolls his eyes, "Not interested." With that he slams the door on Max.
Max rolls her eyes and opens his door again.
"Get out." Billy booms.
Max's jaw ticks, "Fine. Then I'll tell Sam to fuck off for you."
Billy quickly and harshly grabs the telephone from Max. "Out."
Max rolls her eyes and flicks him off, slamming the door behind her.
Once she's gone, Billy lowers the music and puts the telephone to his ear, "Sam?"
A quiet sniff comes from the other side, "Billy."
A hiccup comes from her and Billy brows furrow, "What's wrong? Where are you?"
Sam tried to catch her breath, "I just," She pauses for a second, attempting to catch her breath. "Can you come get me? I'm at Patty's."
Billy is already putting on his leather jacket and has his keys in hand, "I'll be there in a couple minutes. Don't go anywhere. I mean it, Sam."
Sam nods but remembers that he can't see her and whispers a small, "Ok."
Billy quickly hangs up and puts the telephone in its place before rushing out the house.

Although everyone else is clearing out of the small diner, Ms. Patty doesn't bother the crying girl at the very end of the booths.
The girl had come in a few hours ago, ordered a coffee and after getting it, she broke down and began quietly crying to herself.
Ms. Patty had asked her is she was okay or needed someone to be called. The girl only shook her head and apologized continuously.
An hour later, Ms.Patty asked again only this time the girl asked to use the telephone. Ms.Patty had nodded and told her to take all the time she needed.
And 20 minutes later, the girl was finally somewhat calm but tears still streamed down her cheeks.
Sam sits up on her seat and wipes her under eyes, knowing that although she's a wreck, it'll make it less prominent.
She had called Billy 10 minutes ago and he wasn't here yet. Her foot nervously shook, What if Neil stopped him?
Her eyes divert to the door when a small bell chimes. Billy stood with his usual black jacket and boots. He scans the area until he finally sees Sam at the far end
He quickly walks to her, his long steps taking him to her in no time.
Without saying anything, Sam stands and wraps her arms around Billy, tears beginning to stream down her face again.
Billy doesn't question it, instead he wraps his arms around her waist and holds her. His heart breaks when she lets out small sobs.
Billy doesn't say anything the full minute she hugs him. When Sam finally looks up at him, her eyes are bloodshot red and her tears have dried.
Sam wipes her eyes, "I'm sorry."
His brows furrow, "Sorry for what, Sam?"
She sniffs, "For being a fucking mess."
He lightly laughs and caress her cheek, "If you're a mess than what am I?"
She gives him a weak smile, "Can you take me somewhere? Anywhere, it doesn't matter."
Billy nods and grabs her hand, leading her to the door and into his Camaro.
Sam sits down and looks out the window. It was past dark and most shops were either already closed or closing.
Billy looks at her for a couple seconds before beginning to drive.
