Pat

With everything going on with the kids, we didn't have the heart to tell them Lucille wasn't doing well. She didn't want them to know. She said they had enough to deal with in their lives.

Nate called Jonas and Cayson over to see their mom. She needed her boys. I stood there wiping tears away as they sat around her. I knew what it had been like to lose parents. It was the hardest thing to go through in your life.

When Grayson passed away, I watched Nate and his brothers break down. They had Lucille to help them cope, but now they had to say goodbye to her.

"Ma, you will get better," Nate assured her.

"Nathaniel, I'm tired. I've had a good life, and I miss your father. I wanted to tell you boys that I am so proud of the men you turned out in your lives. It took a lot for each of you to get here, but you did it," she told them.

"Don't talk like that, Ma. You can't leave us," Jonas pleaded with her.

"Jonas, sometimes we run out of steam and realize that it's time to rest. It's my turn to rest," she reasoned.

"But who will we turn to when we need someone?" Cayson asked her as tears fell.

"Your families, that's why I'm leaving you in their hands to help you." They looked at her and cried as my heart broke for them.

I watched the boys when Grayson passed away. They broke down, having to lose a parent, and Lucille was there to comfort them. Now she was leaving us, and I knew they would need to have someone comfort them.

"Now, I need to a few minutes alone with Patty," she told them. They got up, and each of them kissed her as they left the room.

I wiped my cheeks as I walked over to her bed, sitting down on the side of it.

"Patty, I'm so glad Nathaniel got his head out of his ass to see he needed you," she told me as I chuckled at that.

"Even though you electrocuted him and I got the blame." I reminded her.

"Well, someone needed to show him the error of his ways," she shrugged. "Now, my boys will need you. I know that's asking a lot, but I know you can handle it."

"What are you saying, Lucille?" I questioned her.

"I'm saying; it's your time now. I'm handing over the reins to you, making you the next Grammy Gray," she declared.

"Lucille, I could never take your place," I reasoned.

"Nope, because I'm one of a kind, but I know you can handle it. I mean, you can handle the boys where most people can't. I watched you with your boys, your grandchildren, and now your great-grandchildren. I can leave this earth with confidence; they're all in good hands. Take care of my boys, Patty. I'm counting on you." Lucille winked, and I watched as she closed her eyes. At that moment, Lucille went peacefully in her sleep.

Nate, Jonas, and Cayson came back into the room to say goodbye to their mom, and I comforted them. They needed comfort from someone who understood. I also knew making the call would be hard on everyone. It always was when someone dies.

Lucille

I walked around, looking for someone. Where the hell was he? He told me he would wait for me.

"Are you looking for me?" I heard a gruff voice.

I turned around and smiled as I walked towards him, "I have been for the last ten years, you twit."

"I missed you, Luci," Gray told me.

"I missed you more, babe. I have a bone to pick with you. You promised me always and forever. You didn't keep up your end of the bargain," I huffed.

"You had a lot to do with me leaving so quickly," he replied, arching an eyebrow at me.

"Okay, I forgive you," I grinned as he pulled me to him and kissed me. He slid his hand into mine, and we started walking.

"Did you leave the boys in good hands?" He asked me.

"I left them with Patty," I winked as he chuckled. My boys were definitely in good hands. They would need it.

Lex

I stood there as I listened to Dad, tell me the news about Grammy. Nana called him along with the others to inform them Grammy had passed away.

I lowered the phone as Piper walked over to me.

"Lex?" She looked at me with concern.

"Grammy passed away," I spoke quietly as her expression turned to sympathy. She walked over and hugged me. We used to joke about her living to be 150, but we knew when the day came, we would mourn her. She was Grammy Gray.

We packed up the boys and took them over to my grandparent's house. The county already came and removed the body. We walked into a house full of people. I let go of Payton's and Parker's hands, and they ran over to Dad. He crouched down and whispered something to them. They nodded and ran over to Grampa.

He looked at them and held out his arms to them as they collided with him as did the other grandkids. Jonas and Cayson's great-grandkids did the same thing. We all watched them. They needed this more than anything.

"Excuse me, everyone," Nana said to all of us. "I spoke with Lucille, and she decided you still need a Grammy, so she gave me the honor of being Grammy Gray. I don't think I can live up to her reputation."

Grampa looked at her. "Patty, if anyone can live up to her reputation, it's you."

She looked at him, "Nate."

"Hun, you deserve it. We all know this. Hell, you put us with all of us," Grampa assured her.

"Patty, he's right. Ma knew what she was doing when she chose you," Jonas told her.

"If anyone deserves it after putting up with our shit, it's you," Cayson added with everyone nodding in agreement.

"I will do my best," Nana told us as we smiled at her. She walked over and wrapped her arms around Grampa and our uncles.

The thing about Grammy is she always knew what was best for all of us even when we didn't know ourselves. Although it will be weird calling Nana as Grammy now, she deserves it.

Dad looked at Ma. "Guess that makes you Nana now."

"I think that's a great honor to have since Pat is awesome anyway," she smiled as he kissed her.

I was glad out of the sadness came happiness, although my pleasure was about to increase.

"Lex?" Piper said to me.

"Yeah," I answered, looking at her.

"Would this be a bad time to tell you that I'm pregnant?" Piper asked. I looked at her wide-eyed.

"I thought you were taking the pill?" I questioned her.

"Did you forget about the time I was taking antibiotics?" She questioned me.

Well, shit, the one time I forget to wear a raincoat. Guess it's time to get fixed, five is enough.
