After 4 years
How long has it been since the day she confessed her love to him? How long has it been since he knew what she felt for him? How many minutes, days, weeks, months, and even years had passed? She can't even remember. It's been a while since that day, that fateful day.
YN, one of the most aspiring soldiers in the Survey Corps, fell in love with a certain blonde man whom she grew fond of. A guy who used to be a brother figure to the regiment, a man who had a strong sense of duty to protect the weak, and to defend the country. A guy who used to be her comfort, her safe zone, her beloved.
4 years had passed already, and she was still stuck in the past, reminiscing from the time when she fell in love with him until the day that he departed from her life.
At first, she didn't want to admit her growing feelings for the bulky guy, because loving someone means weakness, and there should be no weakness in this cruel, yet beautiful world.
But as time went by, she began to acknowledge her feelings for him, little by little. She tried her best to stop it from growing because she didn't believe in love. But fate had its way to teach her that love did exist.
She had seen him before the battle of Shiganshina. That night, he made a promise to her, one thing that she held dearly the most, a promise that he would be back for her, and start a new beginning for the both of them once the trouble came to an end. But it's been 4 years, and it seems like the plan that they both envision will not proceed the way they wanted it to be.
It was currently 3 in the afternoon, a one, sunny afternoon, the blazing heat scorned against her skin as she watched the recruits spar with each other. Here she stands, staring out of the blue, drowning in her thoughts, remembering how a certain blonde guy used to spar from a distance. She used to admire the guy a lot, and she longed to see him the most. Back then, they weren't best of friends, but she usually interacted with him due to their friend circle, alongside the rest of her comrades.
"You're still thinking of him, Don't you?" Mikasa stood beside her as she snapped out of her thoughts. Mikasa used to be her comfort person whenever she felt alone because truthfully, she was the lone wolf, and she had this habit of staring in the middle of nowhere.
Mikasa knew about YN's unwavering feelings for the boisterous guy, that same guy who was once their ally, now, an enemy. Mikasa was against it since she had tried to convince her friend that he was not enough for her, that she was too good for a traitor like him and she should realize that. But she does know that feelings don't work that way. It was not Mikasa's place to intervene since she too, had strong feelings for Eren that she could not control.
"I can't," YN answered. She knew it was stupid to deny something familiar to her friend who also had a situationship problem. It was too obvious to her friend that she still held something special for Reiner up until now. Back then, she used to steal several glances in his direction as her declaration of feelings towards him, then blushes afterwards, which in turn, ended later being picked on by Sasha and Connie since the fact that she cannot hide the redness of her face from her friends.
"He was a traitor. You should forget that good-for-nothing scumbag, YN. It's been 4 years, he was no good for you." Mikasa had been saying the same thing to her for the past 4 years, and YN knew that her friend was right. YN should have already moved on from that tragic romance from the past, and maybe, he already did. After all these years, Reiner had done her wrong by doing the most horrifying attack to end her life, especially through that battle in Shiganshina. They hadn't interacted or talked since the night they both sneaked out to see each other. YN was a medical cadet, during that time, and she was tending assistance and first aid to the wounded soldiers then Reiner had breached the wall again where she was currently assigned to. That time, YN almost died, it was pure luck back then, and thankfully, her comrades managed to save her in time from her death.
