He came back.

Not without a price to pay.

Breaking the trust of the person you love right before you fulfill a promise comes with consequences. Reiner was finally able to mark his words to her after so many years of being apart. The last promise that he will fulfill to a person.

Because Reiner believed that if he didn't fulfill his promise to Ymir,

Reiner isn't stupid, he knew that if he didn't fulfill first his promise to Ymir, all of his sacrifice to be with YN would be in vain.

Maybe he was some Genie or something in his previous life.

Reiner vowed to YN that they would start a new beginning, where there would be no war, no titans, no soldiers running after his life, a place where they could live in peace, and that even no one could stop the both of them from being together. The war between Marleyans and Eldians finally ended, and the Rumbling was halted when Eren was killed.

Their curse as a titan was also been lifted since the Great War that ended almost 80% of the world's population. He can live as a normal person now, he's no longer a titan shifter, and it is the right time to compensate for his wrongdoings. Reiner knew that he could not bring back the people he killed, but he would make it up for the crimes that he committed, by making the world a better place for everybody.

He knew that he made a lot of mistakes throughout his life, and one of them was prioritizing his responsibility as a Marleyan soldier instead of her well-being.

Reiner began his trip down memory lane as his large figure walked in the middle of a flower field, hues of purple, pink, and red enveloped the grassy meadow. A soothing scent of flower fragrance in the distance immediately engulfed his nose. Those damn flowers from Shiganshina made him recollected distant, yet painful memories from the past. A moment of flashback of his wrongdoings as a man of honor occupied his mind like a nightmare. He could hear the screams of agony and the pleas of innocent people ring against his ear. Reiner couldn't even remember the faces of the people he killed before.

She was here somewhere, in the mountain part of Marley. the note stated as he stared down at a piece of paper given to him by Armin Arlert. A place in the countryside of Marley where the plentiful flower fields reside.

'Ah, this used to be her dream before. Her perfect place for settling down.' Reiner thought.

To settle down in a little house surrounded by flower fields, and streamed of river, where she can paint near the river, where she can watch him cutting firewood for their fireplace, where they can sit on the porch and watch the sunset together. The dream house that she had for them, only for her dreams to crumble down that instant. The dream that Reiner failed to fulfill.

Reiner froze on his feet, dead in his tracks as his gaze wistfully longed for her.

She stood there.

There she was, the love of his life, standing in front of him, in her dainty glory, his YN.

His beloved.

She was hanging several blankets in a laundry line, blankets that were too heavy for her good. Her face had shown exhaustion, it was noticeable in her face, and Reiner could see it. Maybe due to house chores and doing the laundry. Reiner could tell that she was already tired.
