INT. SPECIAL CASES UNIT - DAY
Bolsom leaves Todd's office and bumps into Masterson, passing by. Masterson stops him gently, raising an open hand.
MIKE MASTERSON: Good to see you.
PETER BOLSOM (sarcastic): Really?
MIKE MASTERSON: I would just like to say how honored I am to be working with one of the best agents in the bureau, one with such an impressive record.
PETER BOLSOM: Cut the crap. You're a buffoon, a disaster. I'll report you to the boys upstairs one day, I swear.
Masterson is upset at first, but recovers. He smiles, finally.
MIKE MASTERSON: You know, Bolson? You're a good agent. But you don't know a thing about politics. In a couple of years you'll retire exactly where you are now - a field agent, after a whole life of dedication and service. If you're lucky, with a few cents to feed the pigeons on Farragut square. I, on the other hand, will be assistant director.
PETER BOLSOM: Not as long as I work in this office.
They stare at each other, in silence. Then, Masterson groans.
MIKE MASTERSON: Why are we staring each other, like two idiots?
PETER BOLSOM: I don't know.
They walk off in opposite directions.
