I shut the car door and catch up to the others who were already heading into the building. By the time I caught up to them, a lady at the front desk was directing us to the room over. I followed them where we were met with another lady.
She greeted us. Henry didn't hesitate, "We need to sign a new student up and get her courses chosen."
Dad, Henry, and the lady registered me into their system; Ace can only be registered as a companion. Even at a school who claims to be okay with magic, he would probably be the only magic creature here. There definitely wouldn't be any other dragons.
We panicked when the lady asked for old school records and other information that we didn't bring with us. Luckily, Henry had just left them in the car. I didn't even think about bringing the papers much less putting them in the car. By the looks on Ace and Dad's faces I wasn't the only one to forget in the rush of leaving. The lady had to make a few calls and type some stuff up, including filling out the transfer papers. She digitalized them in a process I didn't understand, but then we had to sign tons of papers. Apparently, there were lots of magic waivers about not being responsible for any type of werewolf injury. Afterwards, I started to look at possible courses I could take.
Finally something I could actually do here instead of watching people sign papers. I could sign up for courses I actually wanted to take: magic courses. Sadly, they made me sign up for some courses that were mandatory. Algebra Honors, Language Arts Honors, Biology Honors.
"You will also need to take three credits of History, but that also means you don't have to do one this year and can take it over the next three years," the lady said.
"History?" I hadn't taken a history course since elementary. Apparently, they were mandatory here. I skimmed over the different types of history courses they had. Most of them sounded boring, except for one: Magical History. That was something that sounded like fun.
After discovering Magical History, I stumbled upon a whole section at the end of the book dedicated to magic classes. There weren't as many as the other 'normal' electives, but it was still awesome that they existed here. And I could choose them!
The lady peered over her desk and looked at which options I was picking out. "You do realize that the History of Magic only counts as an elective and not a history elective, right? If you take it, you'll still need to do three real credits-worth of history," she said, matter-of-factly.
"Oh you have GOT to be kidding me!" Ace outburst, "I mean it literally says History. Right. There!" He points to the sheet where the course is.
The lady said a bunch of technical stuff about how it wasn't the type of 'history curriculum' that the school was looking for. Something told me she didn't have a real reason for why it wasn't a history credit, and she certainly wasn't the one who made the decision. Ace forgot this, asking his share of questions while somehow getting louder, pounding on the desk.
I shut his mouth, smiling back at the woman. He yelled at me for a few seconds before realizing that I muffled every complaint with my hand, and no one could make-out what he was saying. I removed my hand from his mouth, and he slumped into a chair, huffing, but staying quiet for the rest of the time.
It had been an eye-opening day. I was upset about what was happening and how terrible these schools were, but Ace was more vocal about his feelings.
After asking a few more questions, I ended up getting a schedule handed to me along with a map of the school. It seemed simple enough:
Period 1 : Room 6-218 : Mrs.Weoner : English 1 Honors
