Cli●ché (noun) a phrase or opinion that is overused or betrays a lack of original thought
Ex: life is hardSomething doesn't become overused if its not relevant/important/pertinent. Life IS hard. Life is rough, difficult, uncomfortable, fill in with any other undesirable adjective you wish but it is still going to be cliche. It is what it is...another one. How is it possible that the entire literate world unites to turn a phrase into a cliche? It has to be pretty all encompassing to affect most of the population past present and future. So, if life is so hard why don't we do something about it instead of just saying the same phrase over and over like a broken record (yes, I know, another one).
