"The final contestant who has made it through is..." Simon paused for dramatic effect. "Tom Richards." Harry let out a deep, shaky breath. He was blinking about 10 times a second, trying to hold back his tears. He looked around, and upon seeing Louis standing just a few feet away, mouth hanging open, hands trembling, he lost control.
Tears were streaming down his face as he left the stage, and he was glad to see that he wasn't alone in that. He could see that Niall, the blonde one he hat met at the audition, was crying harder than Harry was, and an older, more serious boy named Liam was silently sobbing as well.
Harry walked into the offstage area, hoping to get a moment alone, and suddenly found himself right in front of a camera, being asked about how he was feeling. I think it's pretty bloody obvious how I'm feeling, but fine, I'll cry for the camera.
"I- I'm really gutted," Harry choked out. He looked away from the camera, unable to finish his sentence. As the cameraman went searching for another crying person that the show's viewers could pity, Harry spotted Louis sitting on the stairs backstage, head in his hands. Harry immediately felt the need to go over and comfort him, it was pretty absurd, really, the way he was so attracted to this boy. I mean, he is the sun, so it would make sense that his gravitational pull is so strong. Christ, that was insanely corny. Yikes.
"Hey," Harry mumbled. "Hey, are you alright?" Louis looked up at him, surprised. Much to Harry's surprise (and delight), Louis wasn't crying, he just looked... tired, worn out.
"Yeah, m'fine. Just... just really disappointed is all." Louis looked away, shaking his head. "I honestly can't believe you didn't make it through. You... you were incredible at that audition." Harry beamed, unable to contain himself.
"Same goes for you! You have the voice of an angel, Lou." Harry immediately turned beet red and stared at the floor. HARRY, WHAT ON EARTH HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU??? VOICE OF AN ANGEL?????? LOU??????? YOU CAN'T JUST SAY THAT KIND OF THING, DO YOU WANT TO SCARE HIM AWAY???
"I- I... erm... I, I... uh-" Harry stuttered, trying to make up an excuse for what he had just said. Louis laughed, his soft, high pitched voice filling the space around them.
"Don't worry, Hazza. I take that as high praise coming from you. Oh, and you can call me whatever you want. Anything but Boobear. Never Boobear." Harry grinned.
"I'm assuming there's a story there?" He giggled.
"I don't want to talk about it," Louis mumbled.
"Sorry, what was that, Boobear?" Harry was grinning from ear to ear.
"I. Don't. Want. To. Talk. About. It. Also, piss off." Louis tried to look serious, but failed miserably, and instead almost fell over laughing. Harry just stared at him, smitten. If he didn't know better, he would have thought that him and Louis were flirting. But no, Louis's, like, the straightest guy on Earth. Go after someone you actually have a chance with, why don't you?
Harry was about to call Louis "Boobear" again, just to get a rise out of him, when an older man with a clipboard approached the two boys.
"You two, go stand over there with the other boys," the man said. Louis and Harry exchanged a questioning glance, Harry shrugged, and the two of them made their way over to where the group of boys was standing.
"I'm going to call 5 names, alright? If you hear your name, go stand in a line over there, and you will follow me in one moment, got it?" All the boys nodded.
"Alright. Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, please come stand by me." Harry whipped around to face Louis, a huge grin plastered across his face.
"Lou, Lou!" he whispered. "Louis, what do you think's going on? What's happening?" Louis just shrugged.
The boy who Harry had bonded with at the auditions, Niall, tapped Harry's shoulder.
"Harry, mate, what do you think this is? Are they going to let us move on? All 5 of us? No way. There's no way, mate. Right? I mean, why would they be calling us if it was something bad, just to rub it in our faces that we didn't make the cut? It has to be something good. But... all 5 of us? No way they're letting all of us get through. No way in hell. Well, I guess hypothetically they-" Harry cut Niall off by pressing a finger to his lips. They were back onstage, in front of the 3 judges.
"Hello," Nicole began. "Thank you so much for coming back. I know, judging by some of your faces, that this is really hard. We've thought long and hard about it. We thought of each of you as individuals, and we just feel that you're too talented to let go of. We think it would be a great idea to have two separate groups." Niall and Harry glanced at one another, open mouthed.
"We've decided to put you both through," Simon said, with a hint of a smile.
Harry couldn't believe what he had just heard, he felt like he was about to pass out.
He grinned at Louis, and just about melted when the older boy started running towards him. That feeling, however was nothing in comparison to how he felt when Louis jumped into his arms, holding onto Harry as if letting go would physically hurt him.
Harry wrapped his arms around Louis's tiny waist, holding him in a tight embrace for all of 3 seconds.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. He set Louis down as gently as he could, and went in for a group hug with the other boys. Simon was still talking, but Harry had stopped listening.
The only thing on his mind was what had happened just a minute prior. Louis smiling, Louis running to him, Louis jumping into his arms, Louis existing. As far as Harry was concerned, at that moment in time, the only thing that mattered was Louis.
And Harry was perfectly content with that.
