Upon entering the door, Red found herself in a neighborhood. The houses were very tiny -- the type of one-story houses with no attic or basement. The roads were mostly empty, with only a few White cars driving along the Black road.
Red heard the sound of excited yelling. It emanated from further down the road, echoing such joy that Red could never imagine. Intrigued, she followed the echoes, with the will to discover the source of the sounds.
Moments later, she found herself hiding behind a large Green tree, not unlike the ones she saw in the door of the Child -- its leaves were but long stiff strands, and it bore no fruit, but instead Brown cones. She recalled Michael calling it a pine tree, and its "fruit" pine cones. It was strange to find them in such an area, for she also recalled Michael telling her that it grew in cold areas only.
Observing the tree, she forgot about her main goal for quite a bit. She was wary enough to snap back to it, focusing her sight on a warm family scene.
A young boy with Red hair played with a man. They were passing around a round Yellow object, which would bounce when one failed to catch it. The man had Black hair, unlike the child, who oddly resembled Michael. Red watched them from afar, pondering why this game was so much fun to them.
"Ah! Dad! There's a lady in the tree!" the boy suddenly exclaimed, pointing at Red. Her hair was indeed very eyecatching, so this was to be expected. However, Red was taken aback by the statement, confused on how he was able to spot her.
The man spotted her too. "Ah, you're right, Michael." He gave the Yellow object to Michael?, then took his stance. "Hey, leave! Don't just stare at us like that!" the man yelled at her, clenching his fists and waving them aggressively.
Red did not like that. She could feel the emotion -- Anger -- rise in her throat. She stepped out of her hiding place and stood her ground. "Why so rude, old man? I don't cause you hurt, right?" she hissed through gritted teeth, trying not to snap too much.
"Huh? Whaddya say? Speak proper english, young lady!" the man mocked.
"Dad-" his son -- Michael? -- tried to stop them, but Red was already angered by the man's statement.
She charged at the man, yelling incoherently with her fists raised. She would have hit him if Michael didn't get in between them.
"STOP!" Michael yelled, stunning the two adults. Red skidded to a halt in her tracks.
He looked up at Red. "Miss, I don't know why you're being so angry, but spying on us makes us uncomfortable, so please stop doing that!" Red silently nodded, trying not to punch the man who was now sneering at her.
"And Dad!" the boy continued, turning to his father. "You gotta stop mocking the lady! Even if she's bad, making her mad will just make it worse!" The man was shocked, but he changed his expression to remorse to amuse his son. Satisfied, the young boy turned to Red again.
"Miss, you look tired. You can stay with us if you want." he said kindly, taking her hand. She was surprised -- this boy was entirely different from his father. She looked up at the man and smirked as if to say "Ha, beat it old man. You're powerless." He glared at Red, then looked at Michael in protest, but one sharp shot from the boy made him give in.
"Alright, alright, sorry lady. Now get in and grab a bite to eat," he grunted, leading them into the house.
"Thank you," she whispered to Michael. He nodded in return, seemingly glad that he stopped this weird lady and his dad from fighting.
