Happy Valentines Day, Kids. I hope you all receive presents and if not I hope you all made yourself anonymous cards like I did x

JACK'S POV:

Brook's been acting very weirdly around me lately and I don't know what's up with him but I'm going to find out. I have too.

I go to his room and knock loudly on his door so I can make sure that he hears it, and am met almost immediately by a cheerful "Come in". However, as soon as I walk into the room his face falls and he quickly turns his head to face away from me. I slowly approach him and when I reach him I rest my hand lightly on his shoulder, only for it to be violently shrugged off seconds later.

"What do you want Jack?" He asks, clearly trying his hardest not to make any eye contact with me whatsoever.

"I just wanna know if you're ok, and maybe why you've been avoiding me" I reply, hoping for (But not really expecting to get) an answer from the trembling boy in front of me.

He turns around slowly to face me but as soon as he looks into my eyes he breaks down crying, 'I'm sorry' repeatedly making it's way past his parted lips between sobs that shake his entire body. I pull him into my arms and rub his back soothingly, playing with his messy hair with one hand and whispering calming things into his ear.

"Please tell me" I say after a while of us just laying  in each others arms

"I can't" He replies, wiping his eyes with the bottom of my t-shirt and then cringing inwardly at the reality of what he's just done. I shrug. "I couldn't live with myself if I made you hate me" He continues, but why would I hate him?

"Why would I hate you?" I asked, lifting his chin with my thumb so we could make eye contact once again and hopefully this time keep it long enough for me to find out what's wrong with the ball of nerves in front of me. "I could never hate you"

BROOK'S POV:

You know what? I'm just gonna go for it, that was the cue right? Right? When I gather the courage I need to look into his eyes I see patience and love, which is all I've ever really wanted from Jack, so I place my hand gently on his cheek and surge forwards and kiss him.

It feels amazing to finally be kissing him but as I pull away I realise that his face looks completely different to my happy one.. Was that not the cue?

I feel the smile drop off of my face as I scramble backwards away from Jack and cover my face completely with my hands. Breathe. I can't forget to breathe. Deep breaths.

"Brook?" Jack asks worriedly, but I hardly notice through all the commotion going on inside my head. "Brook, I don't hate you, it's fine" He speaks again but this time it manages to break through all the white noise and I look up at him "Are you ok?" I'm fine, I'm ok.

Tell Him

Inhale "I'm" Exhale "Fine" Breathe

"I don't hate you, I promise" OK, that's good.. yeah, that's really good. But then I realise that he's still talking "I love you as a brother though, I'm sorry" and then my legs are walking me out of the room. Is this what heartbreak feels like? My legs feel weak, my arms are heavy and my head feels fuzzy and numb at the same time.

I don't know how I got here or how long I've been laying in the grass but I can feel the snow falling down around me. I've always thought of myself much like a snowflake, unique when I'm on my own - slightly different from the others and finding my own path  to the ground - but then I remember that all our paths are heading to the same destination, and as soon as I hit the ground I melt and become the same as everyone else, unique until I'm just.. not anymore.

My brains telling me I should be freezing but my whole bodies so numb that I can't feel a thing. I feel my eyelids slip shut and I'm just laying there for a while, unmoving, before I feel a pair of arms slide under my back and scoop me off the floor, cradling me to their chest and carrying me inside the house. Into the warm.

I wake up god knows how long later in a bed that isn't mine, with damp hair and upwards of four blankets on top of me. I raise my arms to rub the sleep from my eyes but find them trapped against my sides by someone else's arms. I wriggle myself around enough to turn over and face Mikey, trying to mask the hurt I feel when I realise that it's not Jack holding me in his arms. Just as the memories of (what I assume to be) yesterday start to resurface, Mikey stirs beside me and pulls me back towards his body.

I'm woken up the second time when Mikey climbs back into bed after presumably going to the bathroom and wraps his arms around my waste once again, but this time I know there's no falling back to sleep for me. I lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling, all too aware that Mikey is completely awake too laying silently by my side. It feels calming almost but slightly unnerving at the same time.

"You don't have to do this" I eventually tell him, rolling over to face away from him in fear that he will find contradiction in my eyes from the words I'm telling him. I expect relief but in reality all I receive is a sigh

I'm not doing this out of pity Brook" He starts, but I don't know what I can really believe anymore "I'm doing this because I want to be here"

"No, I'm just being stupid, It's fine. I'm fine" I mumble before sliding out from under the covers and heading quickly towards the door, I'm almost there when his words stop me in my tracks.

"No. He's stupid for not loving you the way you love him. The way I love you.." I spin around before I can tell myself not to and am met by a confident looking Mikey, but his eyes show something else. I don't know. Maybe a mixture of hesitance and relief of finally telling me how he feels? Wait, did he just say that he loves me? I don't.. What do I say..?

"Mikey.." I'm nowhere near finishing my sentence but already Mikey is turning around and heading back towards his bed, ready to hide under his covers as a less destructive version of what I did last night "I don't love you now, I can't, I love Jack and you know that.." But as he climbs back into his bed I feel something tugging on my heart other than pity. I don't know what it is but what I do know is that I don't think what I felt for Jack was even love in the first place "But if you give me some time I think, no I know, that's where I'm heading" and then I take a couple of deep breaths, walk back over to Mikey's bed and join him under the covers.
