Ch. 12 The Day After

Yesterday was a day to remember. Not only did I get a girlfriend, made new friends, and figure out that I can die and come back five times a year, but I now have to worry about who this "Devil Child" is. It could be anyone at my school, like Catti or maybe Birdley, I hope it's Birdley. I better keep my acknowledgment of this person a secret; the last thing I want is for others to worry, especially my parents, considering they are tasked to find and kill the Devil Child. I began to wonder what would happen after my parents are successful in killing the Devil Child. I got ready for the day and as I opened my closet for my jacket, a sticky note was attached to the door, it read "Don't forget about Ralsei. - B" it's a note from myself, it's a good thing I posted this, I almost forgot. As I ate my breakfast, I noticed that my parents were rushing around the house and going from room to room. I asked my mom "Uhm... mom? What are you and dad doing?" At the time, my mom was searching a cabinet and pulled out a small box containing what sounded like bullets, my mom said "Oh, it's nothing dear. We're just preparing for a guest who's coming over... sometime today." I had the strongest urge to believe that my mom meant the Devil Child. I felt baffled and thought to myself "What makes them think the Devil Child is coming today?" I answered my own question with the thought of Mariah Young, she probably had something to do with today. I left my house and said goodbye to my parents, my sister couldn't walk with me because she contracted some sort of illness, the doctor couldn't figure out what. It's strange because this same thing happened to Noelle's dad. I pushed the thought aside and started thinking about buying Susie a gift. I decided to go to Grillby's grocery store on my way to school, but when I got there, it wasn't called "Grillby's" anymore, his name has been scribbled out and the "s" that was left over was used to spell "Sans" There was a small skeleton standing out in the front of the store; he wore a blue puff jacket, a white t-shirt, black athletic shorts, pink slippers, and white mittens. There was something odd about him to me, he was smiling and showed no sign of stopping, it makes me feel like he only smiles. I approached the small skeleton in front of the store who I assumed was "Sans" and said "Hey there, uh, are you the new owner?" Sans nodded and said "Yup! Ol' Grillby moved out and now here I am." I was curious and I continued to question the deep voiced skeleton "Why?" Sans shrugged and said "I don't know, maybe it had something to do with somebody in this town." I had the weirdest thought drift into my head, I thought "Could this guy be the 'Devil Child'? It would make sense to think so! My parents are in a rush because someone is coming and then this guy shows up. Grillby suddenly just leaves and Sans take his place. Sans may have killed Grillby!" I began to be suspicious of Sans and I waved him goodbye, I wasn't going to bother to try and buy anything, considering the store was closed.

I arrived at school and saw that Dr. Alphys got more chalk for her board, it made me feel relief that it wasn't my responsibility to retrieve it. I sat down at my desk and I noticed Susie was right on time for school, she waved at me when I looked over at her. Once the bell rung, it looked like Kris was going to be late again. "G-good morning, everyone!" Dr. Alphys said, then we all said the same. Two minutes after the bell rung, Kris opened the door and surprised Dr. Alphys "K-Kris, you're late again! That's a f-filthy habit, you know!" Kris shrugged and said "Sorry, Dr. Alphys. I accidentally slept in. I promise it won't happen again." Kris sounded like a man and it surprised me still to hear them speak. I looked over at Susie and she had her mouth open in surprise. Everyone else in class was amazed instead of surprised and didn't say anything. Dr. Alphys spoke up and said "Well... good. Now, uh, would you p-please take your seat, Kris?" Kris walked over to his seat and Dr. Alphys continued to write the project she meant to write yesterday. Fast forward to lunch/recess, I'm sitting behind a tree with Susie and eating my lunch with her. We decided that it would be best to hide our relationship from others, just to avoid any drama. I said to Susie "So, about Kris. Do you think..." Susie finished my sentence and said "... He's is hiding secrets? Yeah. There is no reason he could be talking right now. It just feels unnatural." I nodded and said "Same here. Maybe it's some sort of side effect coming back from the darkener world. Have you experienced anything strange ever since we got back?" Susie looked up and thought for a moment and then returned her attention to me to say "Normally, I would've slept in today, but I couldn't after getting my 8 hours of sleep. How about you?" I began to think about what feels weird about me, I felt a weird sensation in my shoulder as I did and said "My shoulder stings a little." Susie let out a sigh and said "Because that's where I hit you before." I rubbed my shoulder as I said "Oh... right." I decided to scoot closer to Susie to get her in a happier state in my presence and I said with a smile "Was that a fun date yesterday?" Susie let out a chuckle and said "That's the fifth time you asked, Brian." I raised my eyebrows in amusement and replied "I just like hearing you say you did~." Susie wrapped her arm around my neck and got close to my ear, she said "Ok, I'll say it again. I had a great time, Brian~." My face felt hot and I could feel my blush appearing, but it all went away when Kris found us and said "What are you guys doing?" Susie pulled away from my ear and began to give me a noogie "Messing around. What about you?" Kris was eating a chocolate bar at the time and he said "I just came over to talk. Do you guys want to have a play date later?" Susie bursted in laughter as I took her arm off of me, I said to Kris "Kris, we're teenagers. We just say hangout. Besides, we can't. We're hanging out with Ralsei today, remember?" Kris turned faced the other direction and said "Right, right... Ralsei... tell me when you guys are ready to go, ok?" Then Kris walked away. I felt suspicious after the encounter with Kris, I don't have enough evidence to confirm it though.
