Polar opposites

Chapter 5

Kyla's POV

As soon as I wake up,  I notice a peculiar presence in the room.  My eyes flutter open and I take everything in-laws the white walls, my brother, the white door, Matthew,  the white curtains-

Wait. Did I just see Matthew?

"Matthew?" I say,  surprised with how small my voice sounds.

"Hi,  Kyla." he replied.

"What are you doing here? " I said, curiosity filling my voice.

"What,  am I not allowed to see my best friend?"

"Guys,  do you mind giving us some privacy?"

My brother and the doctor leave, closing the door behind them.

"How did you know?"

"What's going on? "

We speak at the same time, and I answer first.

"I had an anxiety attack. Not that it concerns you."

"I know that. I followed you and your brother here."

"What! You are such a stalker!"

"Am not!"

"Yes you are! Now,  would you kindly explain to me why the heck you are in my hospital room!" I half yelled,  confused and tired. 

"I was worried about you." He said quietly.

"You were?"

"Yes. Now tell me why you passed out."

"Um....my m-mom overdosed." I said,  feeling the tears coming.

He immediately started to come over to me,  and kneeled down next my bed,  grabbing my hands gently.

"I am so sorry.  I should've been here for you.  I really am sorry.  I don't know why I haven't been  talking to you. I guess I just had my own problems."

"It's okay. I understand. I just want to know- why weren't you impacted by her death as seriously as I was?"

"Honestly? " I nodded my head. "I had a lot of stuff  going on around then and I didn't have time to grieve.  After you left though,  it really sank in."

"Oh. Maybe we can meet up sometime and talk about things?" I said, wanting to be his best friend again.

"As soon as you leave. " He replied,  smiling.

So I know this is a really short  chapter,  but I wanted their meet up to be next chapter because there will be a couple of surprises .
