Pain shot up my left arm as we collided with the ground. I bit down on my lip hard, a whimper leaving my mouth. My nails broke through the skin of my palm as I forced myself to stand on wobbling legs.

I tried to hold onto Luciano when we fell but about halfway into the fall, I slipped. I could hear loud voices above me, a surge of panic beginning to rise.

"Luciano!" I whisper-yelled for him. Silence greeted me as I stumbled around looking for him. I finally spotted his crumbled form, quickly going over to him. I shook him hard, "Come on!"

If we didn't hurry up, those guys were going to be down here quick. I whispered a quick apology before I drew my hand back. It went hard across Luciano's face, his eyes bulging open.

"Ow! What the fu-"

My hand quickly covered his mouth, "Are you okay?" I muttered quietly and he nodded his head. I moved my hand away, picking up my bag.

"Let's go, okay?" I hoisted him up with my good arm.

"Do we really have to do this? She jumped off the balcony, they should be dead, or immobile at least!" A male voice groaned from near by. I panicked for a second when I noticed something glinting not too far away from us.

Luciano's gun.

My eyes widened in recognition. If I went for it, I'd have to be quick otherwise they could see me. I helped him brace himself against the wall.

The gun rested right in front of the back door of the building. It sounded like people were coming down the hall towards it, and there were others that were about to round the corner and spot us. I took a shaky breath before I ran over to the gun, not giving myself time to think out my plan, lest I talk myself out of it.

Right as I passed the door, I rolled, snatching the gun up and aiming it at the person who just walked through it. Their eyes widened, as I glared hard at them.

My finger rested on the trigger but it shook. I felt helpless, my body frozen, my left arm pulsing with pain, as I watched the figure reach for their gun. I closed my eyes tight, waiting for the end.

Bam!

I jumped at the sound, my eyes meeting Luciano's fiery ones.

"You cannot hesitate." He gritted the words out as he held his stomach in pain.

My gaze drifted to the slumped form of the man. Luc had slammed the door against his head, and he now lay unconscious on the ground.

"I-I couldn't-"

"This isn't a game, Rose. It's kill or be killed, and if you want to keep living you better start shooting." The words that left his mouth were harsh.

He's right. I can't hesitate, but he can't just expect me to start killing people.

I gathered myself frenzied thoughts before standing and pressing myself against the wall. There were two guys rounding the corner and we couldn't just expect to run past them.

The self defense courses I'd taken as a teenager ran through my head. Gripping the gun tightly,  I had my finger ready on the trigger.

Adrenaline had my heart pumping so loud I worried if they could hear it. I stayed in the shadows, waiting for the men to round the corner.

As soon as the guy closest to me walked by, I gripped his arm tight, kicking him in the back of the knee, making him topple over. Wrapping my arm around his neck, I pointed the gun at the other guy.

"Drop it." Luciano spit out, narrowing his eyes at the man who did as told.

"Turn around." I spoke to him, my voice hard. He did as told, turning his back to us.
