I wish I could say I was smarter.

Or at least more cognizant to the clues around me, but I never knew. Knew how cruel and ugly the people that surrounded me were.

It's not a mistake I'll make again.

I stood up, my right knee throbbing in pain from the blow she had dealt me. There was a tense silence that surrounded us both.

My mouth stayed closed, lips pursed tight. I didn't have anything to say to her, it seems she felt the same because she was raising her bat again as she came at me.

Without hesitation, I brought my gun up and fired at her. Chiara flew behind a nearby statue, barely missing a bullet to the face.

"I thought you'd be happy to see me!" I heard her voice exclaim. My body moved on its own, jumping back as the statue in front of me topple over, nearly crushing me.

The statue crumbled

She's toying with me. . .

I didn't bother responding, my heart pounding loud in my ears as I tried to figure out where she slithered off to. Gripping the gun tightly, I swallowed hard.

My grip on the weapon slipped from the excessive sweat pouring from my hot hands. Hearing a noise behind me, I whipped around shooting at her fleeing form. My legs kicked into gear, my body weaving in and out of the maze of art as I pursued her.

I could only hope wherever Luciano was, he was safe and that Alice and Klaus were faring better than us.

"Rose!"

As soon as the door shut behind him, Luciano had been banging on it to no avail. It was closed tight, and no amount of hitting, kicking, or yelling would open it.

"Shit." He cursed, hands tugging hard at his hair. This wasn't good, not at all. Nero wanted to divide them, and all he could do now was follow the new path.

Luciano took a breath. Rose had proved to him time and time again that she could handle herself. Whatever was happening in there, she could protect herself. The quicker he found his father, however, the faster he could get back to her.

The man glared at the long, dim hallway. It seemed as if all the people in every painting had their eyes on him. Luc squared his shoulders, striding down the hall.

His eyes narrowed at the lights in the corridor began to flicker. Unconsciously, his legs moved faster. His pace quickened to a sprint when everything went black.

The lights had completely shut off. A chill ran down Luciano's spine as his body tensed. He was completely shut in the dark.

There were no windows to even remotely filter in light, no flickering bulbs, or overhead awnings. He couldn't even see his hand right in front of his face, it was pitch black.

The man shut his eyes, instantly reverted back to when he was a young boy. His father would punish him for not doing well enough by sticking him in a dark room that held the child's worse fears. A constant, ear piercing sound playing over and over until he felt he would go insane.

Luciano's skin began to itch as the familiar sensation of tiny creatures crawling on him overtook his senses. He flinched hard, trying to shake off his nightmares, smacking his arms, when he realized there was nothing there.

The sound began to play, a loud blaring of a high frequency noise caused an excruciating pain to go through his head. Luc covered his ears as he let out a shout.
