We were all told in history class that the First World War began when on June 28, 1914, the archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, was killed by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian nationalist. The event led Austria-Hungary to give an ultimatum to the kingdom of Serbia, which triggered a diplomatic crisis in which all the military alliances that had been formed in previous decades were activated.

In just a few weeks, all the great European powers were at war: nine million people lost their lives, in what is considered the fifth deadliest conflict in the history of Humanity.

But, of course, the reasons why the great empires of the time entered into one are much more complex.

Now...What would a version of the First World War be like in which countries are human and have to deal with everything that thousands of armies took care of themselves?
