It had been two years since Kankuro had visited Konaha. Often Temari was gone to review chunin exams and well, Gaara had became Kazekage. He even requested that Kankuro would be his right hand man, the guy that makes sure Gaara was in line and to protect Gaara with his life. Which honestly, if he wasn't the Kazekage's assistant he'd still be willing to die for his little brother.
"Could you hand me that stack of papers, Kankuro?" The redhead asked, pointing.
"Sure thing," Kankuro replied.
They were currently in Gaara's new office, papers were all around the room but very well organized. Kankuro lifted the stack of papers and set them into the corner of Gaara's desk, where he always set the papers. Gaara head a method to his desk and how well he kept it organized. Most of Gaara's time was spent in his office so Kankuro brought in lunches quiet often for them. Since Temari has been home much or she would be teaching the kids of the sand he had taken up cooking, trying his best to make it edible for them. He sighed to himself as he looked around the room and sat down. Four years ago he would have never seen this. His little brother, Lord Kazekage of the Hidden Sand...it was still a crazy dream in his mind but he was proud.
Two years since Kankuro saved the Inzuka. By now he barely thought about the boy, he was too busy around the village to have silly fantasies about that cute kid but, every once in a while it would pop up. A little smile from him, that cute confident voice thanking Kankuro. He sighed to himself as he sat in a chair by the door of the office. Kankuro wasn't one to make friends or talk easy to people so trying to find a guy friend was hard. Plus Sunagakure was a pretty judgmental place and so Kankuro felt like he needed to hide himself from everyone. It was pretty shitty, being 18 and still a virgin. He leaned into the chair and looked around; he often thought about telling Gaara about his sexuality but he didn't want their relationship to get weird. If anyone, Gaara could change how people saw different but he was scared. What if Gaara was like the rest? Judgmental and rude...what if he disowned Kankuro? His own little brother discarding him like a piece of trash and Temari. Man, he would never tell her. She would tease him till he was in the grave."Kankuro, is there something bothering you?"
Kankuro heard Gaara brake his thought again. He was sitting with a curios/concerned face, his hands folding on his desk. The puppeteer smile and shakes his head, holding up his hands and giving them a wave.
"Nope, nothing. It's all good Gaara. Is there something you need?" He asked.
"No, just...you looked lost in thought again. You do that a lot. I'm just wondering if you're okay..." he replied in a concerned tone.
"Hey, I'm fine. Listen, I'm the older sibling I'm supposed to be worrying about you and you health. With all the damned paperwork and-"
"Just because I'm younger doesn't mean I can't worry about my siblings. You two are the only family I have and I don't want it too disappear because something happened I didn't know about." Gaara interrupted.
Kankuro was surprised, he seen—or heard—Gaara with such a sad tone. The older one sighed and fixed his hat, looking around and then at his little brother. He got up and walked over and ruffled Gaara's hair.
"I'm fine, really. Nothing is going to separate us. I'm here to protect my Kazekage and my little brother. I'll let you know if anything ever bothers me. But right now...don't worry, Kay?"
"Okay brother," Gaara smiled and gave a little nod before looking back down his paper work and started to write.
After quiet a while it was getting dark in the village and Gaara had a scroll rolled up and tucked it into a safe cover before handing it to Kankuro. The older of the two held it and tilted his head at Gaara before he smiled. Gaara stood up and took off that heavy robe, hanging it up by his hat as well. He pushed his hair back and watched at Kankuro stood.
"I believe it is time we head out," Gaara said.
"What's this for? The scroll?" Kankuro asked, cocking his head to the side.
"I want you to deliver that to Hokage of Konaha. She will know what it is. You'll leave in the morning. I trust you with it, it's very important," Gaara said.
"B...but what about guarding-"
"Kankuro, I have many of guard who are trained to care for me until you get back. Plus, I am capable of protecting myself. You, of all people should know how strong I am," he replied in a relaxed tone.
"Okay, Fine. But as soon as I give her this scroll I am coming right back to make sure you are-"
"There is no reason for you to take 2-3 days to get to Konaha, deliver a scrolls nd then just leave. I am telling you to stay there for a few days. You are constantly in my office or at home, you have no friends in this village. Please, I insist that you take time. Explore the leaf, spend time with the people there, so whatever you want. Just do not stay locked up in that apartment there either." Gaara interrupted, more serious this time.
Kankuro sighed a bit and walked out with Gaara, going back their house. They talk here and there and the brunette finally agreed to go. Gaara was right, Kankuro was a bit antisocial and with as much talk as he had, he honestly didn't know how to have fun. One their way home they stopped to eat and he order their food. Going to Konaha again after 2 years, wonder what it would be like. Surely he had changed, gotten taller, changed his style (only slightly, different face paint, just looked a bit more masculine. Gaara had grown too, changed a lot. He was curious at how much the other nin had changed. How that Inzuka has change...nope. Kankuro quickly shakes his head at that. He didn't need to think about him, he was over that stupid little crush. He was sick of this puppy love.
