❛ I'm gonna kill you
If you don't beat me to it
Dreaming through Tokyo skies
I wanted to see the world
Then I flew over the ocean
And I changed my mind ❜
— Phoebe Bridgers, kyoto
The week passed almost quicker than Hannah had ever dared think it would. It was Friday already, the morning had crept by as the sun beat over the mighty UA academy and the classes had passed with a mild sort of ebb and flow. Nothing bad had happened, well, except for the press swarming at the gates like a colony of wasps. Apparently All Might had been taken on as a teacher that year.
Hannah had frowned deeply at the memory of a woman who had practically thrown her microphone at her face. The press could be a bit... energetic at the thought of getting a scoop on the hero's personal life and teaching career. She remembered the way the woman had scowled deeply when she'd just mumbled that it was cool, and the way questions were thrown at her and the other students unfortunate enough to get caught up by the reporters until a gloomy looking man, one of the teachers, had appeared to save them all. She twiddled her thumbs as she wandered into the cafeteria, hopefully they won't still be loitering out there when it was time to go home.
The brunette stilled her breathing as she moved through the impossibly tall doors and into the first year cafeteria, it was fucking massive. Her lunch was buried deep in her backpack - she'd prepared for the worst, but the high school instead proved to have a quite frankly insane food service.
There was no canteen or tuck shop, but it was an experience unto itself. There was a massive line along one of the walls, where food was being served out. They had school lunches here? She thought to herself, insane! Not just a lunch line, but several vending machines scattered about the room. It was beautiful, albeit a bit frightening.
At least half a thousand tables and even more including the picnic tables in the outdoor area in the designated first year zone. Students curled around the tables in their masses, each enjoying their break time with their friends. Hannah couldn't fight the smile forming on her lips, despite the aching loneliness that seemed to force itself in with it.
It was okay she was lonely. But she'd find friends. Good friends, even, better ones than the few she had left behind - ones she might actually like and that might actually appreciate her in turn. It had only been four and a half days. She twisted her fingers between her palms.
The mermaid took another breath. The hazel eyed girl closed her eyes and tried to imagine the sea. The steady, repetitive motion of the waves as they rolled over her head, the cold sensation of the salt on her skin, the water flowing through her hair. It brought the beat in her chest to a calm.
