Doesn't matter how long it takes

But I know I'll get there soon

I've been looking the wrong way

At the other side of the moon

It's not easy to leave it

Thought I'd know where I'm going

I could hold the wheel forever

If I knew you'd be there too

I'm driving forward

To a beautiful place I know

And I've been crying

As I look in the rearview mirror

I leave it behind

In the backseat of my mind

— Thelma Plum, Backseat of My Mind

The day was a quiet one, a general sleepy Sunday morning - in the Jade household at least. It was unfortunately not so for their neighbours, who had been up and wrangling their six kids all under six into the car for Church since at least dawn, to which Hannah's father had been peering through the shuttered windows and providing commentary.

"Oh, oh! The little bastard's making a break for it! Go mate!" He cheered for the six year old. "Which one is he again, Simon or Peter?"

Hannah shrugged. "I really thought his name was David."

"You're both wrong, it's Noah." Annie cut in, a frown on her face. She looked tired.

"Still, who names all their kids after guys from the Bible?"

The woman adjusted her beanie. It was always colder in the morning. "They're Baptist."

Alan shrugged. "That doesn't make it normal, honey, they're kids with uncle names. Uncle names."

"Yeah, what will their partners think?" Hannah added, nodding her head in agreement with her father.

Annie took a loud sip from her mug of tea. "I think their partners will love them all the same. I mean yours will love you, even if your name is a palindrome."

"What the fuck is a palindrome?" The teenager replied swiftly, eyes narrowed.

"And if you got a first name as a last name, bub." Alan threw in, siding with her mother. Traitor. "It's alright though, we don't judge you."

She scowled at him. She got the stupid name from him, as had her mum. If anyone was to blame for the two first names thing it would be him.

The news played softly in the background. The hosts were droning on and on, one mentioning something about a tell-all-interview with Kamui Woods that would apparently 'shock the nation' and then returning to making thinly veiled misogynistic passes about the other host.
