Somebody said you got a new friend

Does she love you better than I can? There's a big black sky over my town I know where you're at, I bet she's around

Clouds flew past as the plane flew forward. The sun shone harshly onto my face and I closed the window shades with a deep sigh. My eyes closed and I leaned back into the seat, humming softly to the song.

And yeah, I know it's stupid
But I just gotta see it for myself

I felt a finger poke my shoulder, "are you excited for California?" Once again, I sighed, took off my headphones and hung it around my neck. I twisted my body to look at her, she twirled her hair around her index finger while looking at me curiously.

"For the hundredth time, Cadence. Yes, I'm excited."

We were on the plane to California for the summer, which is for three months. My mom thought that it was a good idea to relax in the hot weather and practically forced our family-- me, my little sister, big brother, dad, and herself-- to come here.

She beamed happily and bounced in her seat, "cool! I am too. Imagine all the shirtless boys—"

"Nobody cares," I groaned and put my headphones back on. The sound of my sister complaining could be heard faintly.

I'm undeniably worried for my sister and her need for boyfriends. Why would she possibly need one at the age of fifteen? All they do is play you then break your heart. Although, I couldn't blame her for wanting one. I remember when I was fifteen, I would always go on and on about wanting to be in a "perfect" relationship.

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, oh oh oh

I'm right over here, why can't you see me, oh oh oh. And I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the guy you're taking home, ooh. I keep dancing on my own

"We're here." My older brother, Noah mumbled.

Cadence squealed loudly into my ear to wake me up, it was a blatant mistake.

"Cadence!" I screamed even louder and tackled her. The ajar car door was unknown to me and we both rolled out of the car and onto the ground.

"Eden! Oww, stop," my sister's whine was muffled by my shirt as I laid on top of her.

"That's what you get for waking me up, bi—"

"If!" I heard mom shout, interrupting my sentence. "If I hear you say that word in front of Cadence again, you're grounded."

I forgot Mom thought that Cadence is her little innocent angel.

"Mom, you do know that Cadence is fifteen years old, right? I'm sure as hell I heard her cuss."
