The air smelled like smoke as the houses that made up the village burst in flames. People ran screaming and horses neighed as they galloped with riders on them. You panted as you ran, desperately trying to get away from the men destroying your village and killing your people. Even though it was late at night, the fear and adrenaline that coursed through your veins kept you high on alert. You heard a horse's footsteps behind you and you tried telling yourself to run faster even though the muscles in your legs screamed for mercy. You collapsed to the ground as your legs gave out. The horse stopped and the man that was riding it hopped off. He had a sword in hand and he carefully approached you. You turned around and saw who it was.
It was Attila, the man that everyone feared and was a threat to even the Roman Empire. He had eyes that held the look of a man that had no remorse for what he has done and what he was doing. He marched his way towards you as you quickly backed away on the grassy ground. Once he came close enough for him to just decapitate you, he raised his sword. You flinched and looked away, prepared to face your end, but it never came. You slowly looked towards Attila and saw that he was staring down at you with his arm still raised as his hand clenched tightly on the sword.
It puzzled you that it was taking him so long. Was he hesitating? He lowered his hand as he gazed at your form. His face softened in expression as he knelt down before you. You took this chance to get away so you screamed before kicking him in the face. You got up and ran away, but you didn't get far. You felt something hard hit the back of your head; it felt like a rock, but you weren't so sure since it happened so fast before you collapsed on the ground unconscious.
Soon you woke up in a large bed with a soft blanket covering you. You groaned as you slowly sat up and rubbed your head. Your head ached in pain and you closed your eyes as you prayed for the pain to go away soon, but the only thing that happened was memories of the night flooding into your mind. You opened your eyes and your heart started beating hard against your rib-cage. Why were you in a bed? Shouldn't you be at your village? Wait...someone changed your clothes!
The door suddenly opened as a man entered the room that you were in. You gasped as you saw it was Attila. He closed the door behind him before walking up to the bed and sitting at the edge of it, never taking his eyes off of you. You stared wide-eyed at him as your breathing quickened.
"Hello, how are you feeling?" Attila asked. You didn't respond. He frowned.
"I asked you a question. Why aren't you speaking?" You averted your eyes downward as you lowered your head.
"Are you...afraid of me?" Attila asked before laughing. "Oh, there is no need to be afraid of me, darling! I saved you from all of that chaos!" You looked up at him in disbelief.
"B-But...weren't you the one th-that caused it? Weren't you the one that lead those people on horses? D-Didn't you and the others k-kill them?" you asked with a shaky voice. His smile slowly dissolved from his face as he gazed into your eyes.
"Yes, but I chose to not kill you," he replied. You squinted at him as your eyebrows furrowed.
"Wh-Why?" Attila smiled again before taking one of your hands in his. You noticed that his hands were significantly bigger than yours.
"Because I...I was taken aback by your beauty. I realized that by killing you it would be like destroying something precious that god created. Something that he worked so hard on to bring light to this dark world," Attila said. He leaned closer to you so his face was mere inches away from yours.
"And...truthfully speaking...I would very much like to have you as my wife." You gasped as you quickly pulled away your hand from his.
"Me marry a monster like you?! I think not! You destroyed my village!" Attila stared at you with a look of shock and a hint of pain in his eyes, but it quickly went away immediately after it came. He clenched his hand and his jaw tightened as he pressed his lips together. He huffed as he looked to the side and he thought for a moment. His eyes looked downward as if he was disappointed of what he had heard.
"I did not expect this reaction," he said quietly, as if he was talking to himself. You didn't dare say a word. He looked up and met your gaze with his. His eyes were strong and focused while yours were wide and frightened.
"Should I just kill you, then? Like I did with the rest? Was this a mistake to just bring you hear and declare you as mine?" he asked. Your eyes began to water and your body trembled.
"Don't you dare start crying. I should be the one in tears for having someone fit to be called a goddess reject me!" he raised his voice and you flinched at that. You turned your head away and covered your face with one hand as soft whimpers escaped your mouth. Tears began rolling down your cheeks as well. Attila sighed as he stared at your display.
"Fine...be that way," Attila said before standing up from the bed. "I'll give you a chance to rethink your answer and when I come back...I expect a change of mind." And with that, Attila left the room, leaving you sobbing on the bed.
