Chapter seven:
We walked downstairs and I caught Naomi as she was walking over to the stairwell with a churro in her hand. She looked at me and then immediately at Bolin. "Oh hey! I got you a churro." She put her arm out with it.
I didn't grab it which probably made the encounter already more awkward than I wanted it to be. "Yikes, Naomi I'm sorry I was hoping I could grab you sooner. I just met Bolin upstairs and we were gonna go grab a bite." She looked at the both of us and put it together and her jaw dropped.
"Oh, OH! Well I'll just take this churro home." She looked down at her feet and back to us. This was so awkward it was making me cringe. "Hi Bolin, I'm Naomi. I'm dating Hikari's brother." She held out her non-churro holding hand and Bolin shook it.
Bolin stared at the churro. "Hey, so are you going to actually eat that churro or do you think it will just go home with you and like sit on the counter until it goes stale? I'm just wondering it's not actually really important." I looked at him and smiled I could almost see his mouth watering.
"You can have it if you want." She held out the churro and Bolin immediately took it seemed to basically inhale it. The churro was gone before I could even blink. "You like churros huh?" Bolin blushed and dusted the sugar off of his hands.
"Is it obvious?" He asked, still chewing.
Naomi chuckled. "I'll get going. You're welcome to stay the night with us Hikari. I get if you're still uncomfortable with it though. Have a nice date." She turned away quickly, probably because she didn't want to see the sad look on my face. I have a feeling that Yuu fessed up to a lot of thing he's done. She walked away into a crowd of people and disappeared.
Bolin looked at me and smiled wide. The word date almost made my heart go still. I mean dinner, I should assume date right? But I didn't know Bolin really at all, just from a moment ago. Is that crazy? I never had a boyfriend before or had been taken out on a date. I was always so concerned with other things that it seemed like boys didn't come around often. Or I guess if they had I just didn't notice.
"Ready to go?" I smiled and nodded and we began to walk through crowds of people towards the exit. There were a lot of people around so I gripped his arm as he lead me through the crowd. Since everyone was leaving all at once we had to weave through the crowd single file. I let go of his arm once we got outside into the warm summer air. "Woo, that was smelly huh?" He chuckled as we began to walk across the bridge towards the street.
There were Sato-mobiles going everywhere and the entire city was lit up. I stopped at the end of the pier and just stared up at all the lights of everything in the city, then took a step back to look at the golden arena. I was so concerned with dying at night that I hadn't even taken a moment to absorb how beautiful the city is at night. I turned and looked at the water. The waves dance against the pier and I could see Avatar Aang Memorial Island, it was lit up with spotlights. Not far from it was Air Temple Island. There were large white buildings with lighting all around it. The twinkle lights dance in the reflection of the port.
I sighed, "Wow." I looked over to see that Bolin was staring at me as I took in the entire city.
We started walking again. "So...are you from around here?" He asked.
We began to walk down the street and just talked continuously as Bolin lead the way. It wasn't a very long walk but I feel like the both of us talk really fast and there was not a moment paused. I told him about where I'm from and how I'm a firebender and my brother is a waterbender. I decided to leave out the part about my father leaving me and my mother recently dying and just sugar coated it to I thought it was just my time to get out and see the world and what's a better place to start? I could tell he didn't totally buy it but he didn't push for any more details, which I liked. He explained his situation to me, how his brother Mako and him were doing pretty well in probending and they lived in the attic of the arena. He promised to take me there sometime, saying that if I thought the view at the pier was great, I would love his view of the city from there.
