Alone But Contempt

The sky was dark as night time rolled over the small town nothing but a single star shining duly above a restaurant. In that restaurant sat an empty table by the window, the whole place was booming with the chatter and laughter of people enjoying their night but the table by the window remained untouched.
The reason for this, was because every night, no matter the weather, Lance McClain would come in and sit there. He never ordered anything, opting to stare longingly out the window in search of something beyond his reach.

————

The night started off as normal with Lance McClain coming in at 9:00pm on the dot, as he opened the door the little bell rang, signifying his arrival. Nobody turned to look, nobody noticed that he was there, the lively expressions of their happiness drowned out his very existence; as if he meant nothing. Mr McClain pulled out a single chair and sat down, placing his bag on the ground he rested his head in his hand and turned to look out the window. In his short untamed hair lay a delicate white lily.

Lance watched as couple passed by holding hands, laughing and kissing; his heart felt heavy and suddenly the buzzing, energetic air around him stilled and fell cold. Tilting his head towards the empty night sky, Lance focused on the dull star as it began to flicker. Picking up his bag, Lance stood quietly from his chair, he turned to leave but hesitated.

"Come on, Baby Doll~"

His eyes glided from one end of the restaurant to the other when he zeroed in on a couple that had walked by the window earlier in the night. The man raced his hand up the woman's waist, locking his muscular arm around her. The young lady coiled back at his actions and tried pointlessly to move away.

"Please....not here."

Her words shaky and quiet as she did not want to draw attention to herself. It did nothing to stop the man, only egging him on more. Pulling the woman roughly to his chest, he burried his nose into her neck absorbing her very essence, in a sickening display of lust and dominance. Lance's sadness turned to resentment, he ripped the delicate white lily from his hair and heartlessly threw it onto the table he sat at, before storming out of the restaurant altogether.

As he walked passed the window he previously sat at, Lance spared one last glance. To his surprise he found something unexpected. All eyes were on him. However unlike the couple he watched every night, he was alone; and for once in his life, he was contempt with that.

It's been so long since I've updated this book.
I had no choice, it had to be a happyish ending. Lance deserves to feel ok.
This story was one that I did in English for my Creative assessment. I just changed the main character.

Hope you like it
Have a great day or night 😊
