"Ok Addi, what have you got for homework?"

Addison dug through her bag and pulled out a sheet.

"Linear equations." She said, handing it to me.

"Why can't you ask the au pair to help you?" I asked, turning the paper over.

"I don't like her. She's super serious all the time and it annoys me."

My mom hired an au pair after she was told that I was hospital-bound and couldn't take care of Addison. Addison is used to being around me all the time, so this whole thing threw her for a loop.

"Addi, we hired her specifically to help you with homework."

"That doesn't mean I have to like her."

"We sent her here to take care of you."

"Well send her back, I want a new one."

"Cameron, do you want some cookies? My dumbass brother baked way too many." Sadie said, walking into the room.

Addison whirled around, peering at her. Upon seeing her, Sadie smiled.

"Hey. You must be Addison."

Addison turned to me, looking perplexed.

"This is Sadie."

"You and I met briefly." Sadie added.

Addison's eyes widened as she realized who Sadie was.

"WHAT? No fricking way." Addison turned to me. "She saved your life right?"

I nodded my head.

"AND she brings you cookies?!"

I nodded again.

"Why couldn't I have gotten bitten by a shark?" She mumbled.

Sadie smiled, pulling a cookie out of her tupperware container and handing it to Addison. Addison devoured the cookie in almost three seconds flat.

"Woah." Sadie said, raising her eyebrows. "I've never seen anyone eat a cookie that fast."

"Addi's full of surprises." I said with an eyeroll.

"Can I-"

"Yeah, you can have another one." Sadie replied, handing Addison another cookie. She dug more out and handed those to me. I took a bite, savoring the sugary taste.

"Dang, why are these so good?" I asked, swallowing. "Do you guys put crack in these or something?"

"Maybe just a little. Can you taste it? We try to keep the dough to crack ratio at a good level." Sadie replied.

"What's crack?" Addison inquired.

"You'll learn when you're-."

"If kids ask you to do it at high school party, go for it." Sadie interrupted.

"No. DON'T go for it." I said, shooting a glare at Sadie.

"You guys know I can literally google it right?" Addison said, pulling out her phone. She typed something into the search engine. "Crack cocaine, also known simply as crack, is a free base form of cocaine that can be-"

"Ok you know what crack is now." I interrupted. "Congrats. Now stop talking about it before someone overhears you and thinks I'm being a bad guardian."

"Wait...you're her guardian?"

"I'm one of them." I replied. "But I'm the one who she likes the most, right Addi?"
