POV: Cordelia
_______________________________________One grande iced skinny mocha for Amelia!" The barista shouted.
Ah. So my name was Amelia today. Not too bad. I looked around, waiting for another person to go up to the counter. I didn't want to be the only person going up to fetch their drink.
The Starbucks was filled up with students who were bent over their laptops, writing research papers or studying. All of them had the same tired, half asleep look of most college students. The Starbucks on my campus was always pretty packed, due to college students' constant need for coffee. I've pulled a lot of all-nighters here, usually taking a bunch of coffees up to my dorm to share with my roomate after close. My leg bounced nervously as I waited for someone else to get their drink. Finally, someone did."One tall strawberry acai for Emily!" The barista yelled.
I stood up, waiting for whoever was taking their drink to get there first.
A tall, toned blonde jogged up to the counter, wearing a lacey crop top and high waisted jeans. It was my coworker, Emily. I reluctantly walked over, hoping she wouldn't turn around. I snatched up my drink, hoping she didn't notice me."Oh. Hi Cordelia." She said sweetly, turning around.
Great. Just great.
"Hey Emily." I mumbled.
"Were you waiting for someone to come up here so you wouldn't have to go get your drink alone?" Emily asked, plucking her drink off the counter and taking a dainty sip. "You're cute."
"No...I just...didn't hear them call my name, that's all."
"Uh huh." Emily replied, sipping her drink. She looked down at my drink, disapprovingly. "You got whip on that thing? You know that's literally just processed sugar, right?"
"I'm aware."
She raised her eyebrow at me, looking me up and down.
"You need some meat on your bones. I don't understand how you're so thin."
"Good metabolism." I replied, taking a sip of my iced mocha.
Emily smiled sweetly and touched my shoulder.
"It won't last forever, hun. You should exercise more. You know, I'm going for a run along the beach at-"
"3:30?" I interrupted. "Yeah, I know."
"Do you want to come with me? You could use some muscle."
Instead of punching her in the face, I smiled back at her and said something I never thought I'd ever say.
"Sure." I replied.
"Are you sure? It'll be-" Emily paused, suddenly realizing that I hadn't given my usual answer. "Wait. Did you say yes?"
"Yeah. I'd love to go on a run with you." I said, plastering a fake smile on my face.
"W-well great! Meet me at 3:00 so we can warm up."
"Ok. Sounds good." I said dryly.
"Cool! See you then! Wear workout clothes. Do you own any?"
"Yeah. I of course I do." I replied. "Why wouldn't I?"
~*~
"Rose? Do you have any workout clothes?"
Rose, my roommate, looked up at me in surprise.
"I do...what are you going to do with them?"
"I'm going to work out in them."
"I'm sorry...what?"
