Chapter Twenty Four: Priority List
Vale"Rogues?" I asked.
"We aren't one hundred percent sure on that Vale." Wex filled me in, "so far it was just a dead deer, for all we know it could've been another animal, mountain lions come down every now and again...but of course the guard and I have been keeping an eye out."
"And we've doubled the patrols to both day and night shifts." George put in.
"Have we talked to any of our neighboring packs to see if they haven't had any recent activities out of the norm for them?"
"I'm on it." Wex sounded before disappearing. I knew he'd go into Jessa office to use her contacts and phone.
"Meanwhile I think it's for the best to let the pack know of potential threat." George offered.
I nodded, "they have the right to know for their own safety but I also don't want to cause a panic...we'll have to handle this delicately."
He shrugged, "honesty's the best policy."
Once again I was in agreement with him. "We'll just tell them what we know and let them know we're doing everything to maintain our packs safety...maybe implement a curfew or group travel?"
"The younger pack members wont like having a curfew." He pointed out.
I sighed, "well I'd rather have a few pissed off teens than knowing I didn't say or do anything to prevent something happening to them."
"You okay?" He asked as it was just he and I in the office.
I shook my head, "not particularly...I have possible rogues, a new mate, my best friend isn't here, I'm worried about my pack members and I'm running on little to no sleep as I was anxious to get back here."
He sighed, "go and be with your mate, Wexler And I can handle this."
I shook my head, as much as I did want to just go and hide away with Shelby...right now I had to be the Alpha first.
"I'll send out a mind link to make everyone aware and then I guess we can have Wex and the guard implement the curfew...I want everyone inside at eleven...if you have to go out no one is to travel alone whatsoever, if you are alone and need to leave call out to the guard and a member will escort you to and from." I sighed heavily as I knew he'd make note of my official Alpha order.
"I don't like this marshal law bullshit." I growled in frustration as the tight restrictions I was setting reminded me of when my dad was the alpha of this pack.
And for years I'd done everything I could to steer my pack away from its dark past.
"It's for the best, and it's only temporary until we can find some answers...the pack will understand that." He assured me.
Wex came back in, "three of our allies had dead deer too, and worse...one of them said a child turned up missing."
I felt my stomach drop, "it has to be rogues for sure."
"It's been years...decades." George put in.
I shook my head. "Rogues don't need a reason to attack, they see big packs thriving...they start off small before making bigger moves...and I'll be damned if I sit back and watch my people get slaughtered."
"Vale..."
I looked at Wex, "what else?"
He shook his head, "it's just...should we tell Jessa what's going on?"
I shook my head this time, "no." I said without hesitation, "she'll try and rush over here...right now she's safest where she's at and that's bringing me a little peace of mind...meanwhile I need to go make this mind link."
