Chapter 3

HUNTER

Amber’s cold glare still lingered in my mind all day at school. My wolf has been yelling at me all day.

“HOW DARE YOU REJECT MY MATE!!!!! ARE YOU MENTAL?!” he screamed at me.

“NO I’M NOT MENTAL AND I REJECTED HER BECAUSE SHE WAS WEAK!!!! I WOULD HAVE NEVER GOTTEN THE PACK’S RESPECT!!!! SHE WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO TAKE ON ALPHA FEMALE!!!!” I mentally screamed back at him.

“Whatever, you’re going to regret this.” He said and all of a sudden…. he was just gone.

            “Hello!” I yelled.

            No response.

He had closed his mind from me. He’s never done that before.

I suddenly became aware that someone was waving their hand in front of my face. I looked over to my left and Molly was sitting there looking at me with an angry face.

“Were you listening to me at all?!” she shrieked at me. I winced; damn she has a high voice.

“No babe sorry. You want me to make it up to you?” I asked, wiggling me eyebrows at her.

            Her eyes lit up:

“Meet me in the janitor’s closet after class?” she purred.

I nodded. What can I say? Yes I sleep around but, hey, I’m a Hormel teenage wolf. I have needs.

*************************************************************

After I got out of the janitor’s closet with Molly, I decided to leave. I was about a half a mile away from school when Jason my Beta mind linked me:

            “The Pack just left school”

“Cool. I just pulled up to the house” I said back.

“We’ll be there in 5 minutes” he said back.

I had just gotten out of my black 1977 Ford Mustang Cobra II when cars started to pull into the drive way. The first one out was Jason my Beta, Amber’s brother.

“Hey, what’s up dude?” he greeted me.

“Nothing much dude, what about you?” I replied.

            “Same.”

We started walking up to the house and opened the door. I expected the usual clean house and dinner made. What I got was a cold, unfriendly looking at us. The house was dirty all the lights were out and it didn’t look like Amber had been here at all. Weird.

I sniffed the air, looking for dinner, what I found was the sound of blood. Immediately I froze and listened to see if the threat was still here. I was greeted by silence.

I relaxed slightly and sniffed the air to see where it was coming from. It was coming from upstairs!

I motioned for Jason to follow and the rest of the pack to stay put. As we walked upstairs the scent got stronger. As we reached the door it was strongest I realized it was Amber’s room.

I pushed open the door to find a small puddle of blood in the center of the bare room and a trail leading out the window. I jumped out the window and followed the trail to the woods in a panic. As I reached the end of the trail I lead to a huge pile of ash mixed with blood, it smelled strongly of Amber. I quickly started searching all the way to the border and a 10 mile radius around the pile and when I came up with nothing else. I walked back to the pile.

As I came back to the pile and the whole Pack was staring at the pile in shock. I then realized that there was a note in the pile I snatched it up and read it.

            ‘I’ll be back’

As I recognized it as Amber’s handwriting, it all clicked she left and left this for me to see.

As I realized this I fell to the ground paralyzed, in pain.

“NOOOOOOO!!!!” I shouted in pain and passed out.
