As I was laying in my bed, I couldn't help but think. Now Austin knew the real me. Well, for the most part. I wasn't sure if I was okay with it. No one had ever took the time to comfort me and tell me everything would be alright. Then there was the fact that I was super emotional, and being a drama queen. For all I know, I probably scared him off. I'd walk into school, and he would be nowhere to be found.
I desperately wanted to drop the negative thoughts, but each time I tried, another thought would emerge. I decided to try and curl my hair, to prevent the negative thoughts from dwelling in my mind. I sauntered into my bathroom, and plugged in the curling wand. As it heated up, I combed out my hair and rubbed in some heat protection moisturizer.
I finished as midnight came around. I liked the way it looked, so I sprayed my hair with mousse. Hopefully it would stay curly for a while. After I unplugged the curling wand, I crawled into bed, and fell asleep.

A door down the hallway slammed. "CAN YOU MAKE CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES?" Someone yelled, from what seemed like right outside of my bedroom door.
"Hush, Alex! Madison is sleeping!" My mom mumbled. How I could hear her, I wasn't really sure. "But it's almost two in the afternoon. And she starts school in two days." Alex responded. I tip-toed across my room, and pulled on black yoga pants, and a white Ramones shirt. I made sure my hair wasn't messed up, then left my room. The guy I guessed was Alex, was standing in the doorway of his room, or his brother's room. I paused, unsure if I should keep going or say something.
Before I had to make the decision, he spun around, his brown eyes wide with excitement. "Hey Madison!" I arched an eyebrow. I wish someone would save me from this unbelievably awkward situation. Why did I even get out of bed?
"Hi...?" I popped my thumb, and stood there. "Oh, I'm Alex. Your stepbrother. And that's Andrew." He pointed to the boy sitting at the desk in the room. He seemed to be about a year or two younger.
"It's nice to finally meet you! Austin and your mom have told me alot about you." He pulled me into a quick hug, then pulled back, smiling. I had completely forgotten that Austin had told me Alex was his best friend.
"Same here." I returned the smile, and stepped around him. He walked into his room, as I jogged down the steps. "Hey Madison!" My mom smiled at me.
"Hi mom." I smiled back, and she turned from the fridge. I guess she was making chocolate chip pancakes, since all of the ingredients were sitting on the counter. Even though it was two in the afternoon.
"Would you like to go school shopping today or tomorrow?" She was quick to mix all of the ingredients together, then begin her work on the stove. "I think tomorrow. It looks like it's supposed to storm."
"Alright, we'll head to the mall early tomorrow, before it gets crowded. Would you like some pancakes?" A pile of the golden, fluffy pancakes had formed on the plate next to her. "No thanks. I'm not hungry." I slid out of the chair, and went outside. I've been exhausted these past few days, but I didn't think anything of it.
"Maddie!" He yelled, running up to me. I had ventured onto the sidewalk, just walking. I didn't have a destination in mind, but now Austin was here. "Austin!" I smiled at him.
"Are you okay? You don't look so good.." He seemed worried. I couldn't tell what I looked like, but I could guess my face was pale, and I had bags under my eyes. "I'm fine." He pondered my face for a moment, then slid his arm around my shoulder. We began heading down the street, with no set destination in mind. At least I didn't have one in mind.
"What's up?" I turned my head towards his, my hair falling over his hand. "Nothin'. I was gonna come over, but then I saw you outside." I nodded; we were both smiling now. I felt a drop fall onto my arm. Then another. And another.
"I'm pretty sure it's raining. And we're nowhere near home.." In fact, we had ended up in the middle of the park. By now, a light mist was falling, but by the look of the low-set, deep gray clouds, the rain was bound to become heavier.
*Austin's P.O.V.*
Just by standing here with her, and being so close to her, made me feel like I was on top of the world. We kept walking through the park as if the rain weren't even falling. I didn't mind, though. I snuck a glance at her, and I could tell she was deep in thought. Even though she said she was fine, I could tell something was wrong. I didn't want to push her into telling me. Hopefully she felt comfortable enough to tell me, eventually.
The rain gradually became heavier by the second. I should stop her right here, and kiss her. But then again, I don't want to screw this up. I just met her, and I don't want to scare her off.
*Madison's P.O.V.*
I wouldn't be surprised if he could feel how fast my heart was beating right now. We were both silent, the only sound was the rain hitting the pavement, and our shoes splashing in the layer of rain beneath us.
All I could think about was how amazing it would be if he kissed me in the middle of the park, in the pouring rain. Even though a tingly feeling runs up my spine every time he touches me, smiles at me, looks at me- I keep trying to convince myself that I don't like him more than in a friendly way. But it's impossible; I gave up on that. He's affectionate, sweet, and even talented. What's not to like about him?
Almost as if I were revealing my thoughts out loud, he stopped me, right under a monstrous oak tree. We gazed into each other's eyes for what felt like eternity. A crisp breeze whipped across my cheek, but I was hypnotized. Our faces were only inches apart. I could hear a few crashes of thunder in the distance, and I saw a blazing white streak of lightning flash through the dark clouds. I wasn't scared, I had all I needed right here.
He cupped my chin in his strong hands and guided it up to his face. He leaned in for the kiss, soft and sweet, passionate and romantic. His hat was in the way, so I pulled it off, and used my other to run my hand through his fluffy, brown hair. I kissed back, leaning my body in closer, just to feel his warmth, since I was shivering in the frosty January rain. It was perfect, nothing could beat it. In that kiss I could tell he truly cared. It was undeniable. It was at this moment that I realized he meant what he had said yesterday.
I pulled away, breathless. Once I was able to catch my breath, I stretched up onto my tippy-toes. Just then, the most defening, piercing crash of thunder boomed above us. I squealed like a scared mouse. Austin chuckled at me. I pulled his wet hat onto my drenched head, and pulled it down to cover my face. "Let's go. This storm is getting bad." He whispered, as he tossed his arm around my shoulder, and planted a light kiss on my cheek before we started walking back to my house. I cuddled into his side, my arms wrapping around his waist. I was oblivious to my surroundings. Oblivious to the winds so strong that practically made the trees bend at the middle.
You know how when you're a little kid and you believed in fairy tales, dreaming up that fantasy of what your life would become? Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming. They were all so close you could taste them. But eventually you grow up, one day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears. You realize the fragments in life. That Prince Charming isn't easy to pick out. But once you do find him, it's the best feeling in the world.
That was exactly how I felt.
