"Why were you two out there in that storm?" My mom rushed into the foyer, where I stood huddled next to Austin. We were both dripping wet.

"We left before it started to storm. We didn't realize we walked far." She handed us a towel, which Austin wrapped around my shoulders.

"You two go change and dry off. I'll go make some hot chocolate." I watched as she went down the hallway.

"Um... I'm guessing you get spare clothes from Alex...?" Austin nodded. We went upstairs. Austin went into Alex's room, and I went into my room. As soon as I shut the door, my phone started ringing from the night table. I answered without even glancing at the number.

"Hello?" There was a loud rustling at the other end.

"Madison. I'm sorry I sent you away. Please come back." He slurred, obviously drunk. It was my dad.

"You're drunk. And I'm not coming back!"

"Yes you are. I'll bring you back. We can move to California. It'll be nice. Please come back."

"No. I hate you. I will never come back." I stretched out each word, long and slow.

"You're coming back, Madison. You are." The line cut dead, and I shivered with fear. Sure, he was drunk, but he always kept his word. My phone slipped from my fingers, and tumbled to the floor, causing a soft thud to echo through my room.

"Madison? Madison, are you okay?" Austin knocked on my door.

"I-I'm fine, just dropped my, uh...phone." He walked away, and I quickly threw on black yoga pants and a plain maroon t-shirt. I combed my hair, and ran out of my room. I entered the kitchen, to see Austin sitting in one of the tall stools at the island. He had on black basketball shorts and a red t-shirt. I have to say, I enjoyed the sight. He sipped hot chocolate from a coffee mug with Scooby Doo on it. He smiled at me as I sat down next to him.

He slid a solid pink mug towards me, filled with hot chocolate.

"Thanks. Where'd my mom go?"

"She and Ruben went out for lunch. She said they won't be back until later to tonight." I nodded, taking small, slow sips. The mug was warm against my hand, but it felt good. It didn't make sense for them to go out in weather like this, but oh well. Whatever floats their boat. A few seconds later, Alex came bounding down the steps.

"I invited a bunch of people over. Hope that's alright." I rolled my eyes.

"Way to ask, Alex." Austin grumbled, rolling his eyes, too. He finished his hot chocolate.

"Well, both of my brothers are out of the house, and I feel like playing truth or dare." I froze when he mentioned that horrid game. The last time I played that game, it got way out of hand.

"Maddie! Truth or dare?" Seth yelled from across the circle.

"Dare!" I tossed my hair back and giggled.

"I dare you.....to go in the bathroom, and try to bring out Bloody Mary." I knew that urban legend was made up, so I willingly went into the bathroom. I shut the door, locket it, and turned off the light. I did everything I was supposed to, then waited. I heard a thump from behind me in the shower. I squealed with fear, and spun around. My breathing got heavier.

I unlocked the door and tried to pry it open, but it was stuck. I yanked it, pulled it, kicked it, hit it, and did everything I could, but the door wouldn't open. I turned on the lights to see a shadow behind the shower curtain. I became frantic, pounding on the door, crying.

The door swung open, to reveal laughing faces. Seth's best friend, Josh, stepped out from the bathtub, laughing hysterically.

"That wasn't funny!" I screamed. Seth and Josh were on the floor, cracking up. I was furious, and I was ready to leave.

"Fuck you all." I stormed out of the house, and walked down the long, dark road. Trees surrounded me, and there were no cars. This was one of the reasons why I hated Vermont.

"Madison?" Austin looked at curiously.

"Yeah?" I swished my hot chocolate around in my cup.

"Do you just wanna go hang out upstairs?" I nodded, as we left Alex in the kitchen to tend to snacks for his guests.

We both laid down on my bed, and basked in the silence. I glanced at Austin. He seemed to be deep in thought.

"What are you thinking about?"

"You. And me. I mean, us..." He blushed, and turned away. He seemed confused.

"What about...us...?" A million emotions ran through me, and I didn't know what to think.

"I-I really like you. But I just met you, and I don't wanna rush you into anything. If y-you even like me...in that way...I'm sorry I shouldn't have even brought this up. Can we just watch a movie?" He sat up, and walked over to my TV. I sat up abruptly.

"Austin."
