My eyes fluttered open, to a dimly-lit living room. I was laying on the living room couch. I sat up slowly and scanned the room. Austin was nowhere to be found. I jumped up when I heard a car pull into the driveway. My mom's car had just pulled in. I turned around to sit back down on the couch, when I saw a small Post-It note.

Madison,

I had to leave for the studio. I didn't want to wake you up. Shoot me a text when you wake up(:

I smiled, and grabbed my phone from the coffee table just as my mom walked in. I sent Austin a quick text.

"Hey! Did you unpack today?" She hung her purse from a coat hook, and smiled.

"Yeah. But Austin helped me a lot." She chuckled, and went into the kitchen. I ran up to my room, suddenly feeling giddy.

I grabbed my guitar, and sat on my bed. I tuned it the best I could by ear, and started to play the first song that came to mind.

"But you're so hypnotizing,

You got me laughing while I sing,

You got me smiling in my sleep,

And I can see this unraveling,

Your love is where I'm falling,

But please don't catch me..."

I slowly came to a stop. I was so focused on my fingerings, that I didn't realize someone was standing in my doorway. I already knew who it was without even looking.

"That was beautiful." He grinned as he came over and sat next to me.

"How do you always hear me? I thought you were at the studio." He adjusted his Chicago Bulls snapback.

"I don't know. I just do. But I left like four hours ago. You slept a long time!" He chuckled, folding his hands. I raise my eyebrows, and glanced at my bedside clock. He was right, it was almost five o'clock.

My guitar slipped from my hands. Austin began strumming a few notes. He turned to face me. My heart began skipping beats and my zoo of butterflies was released. They were on a frenzy, too.

"What day is it? And in what month?

This clock never seemed so alive

I can't keep up and I can't back down

I've been losing so much time

'Cause it's you and me, and all of the people with nothing to do

Nothing to lose

And it's you and me, and all other people

And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

One of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right

I'm tripping on words

You've got my head spinning

I don't know where to go from here

'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do

Nothing to prove

And it's you and me and all other people

And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

There's something about you now

I can't quite figure out

Everything she does is beautiful

Everything she does is right..."

He set the guitar down on the bed, and flashed his signature smile.

"That was...amazing." I leaned over and hugged him. How could he be any more perfect?

I was sitting in the car with my mom. She had to run an errand, so I decided to tag along.

"I'll be right back." She jumped out of the car, so I pulled out my phone. It turned out I had a new text from Austin.

Austin: Can I come over later? I need to talk to you

Me: Of course(: I'll let you know when I'm home

Austin: Ok(: See you later

Me: Haha okay. See you later(:

I smiled dorkishly to myself. I didn't realize I was still smiling until my mom got back into the car, and stopped to stare at me.

"You're awfully smiley today. Is there something I'm missing?"

"Nope! Nothing!" She knew I was lying, but she didn't push me to tell her.

"I'm gonna order a few pizzas. Is there anything you want?" I shook my head, and stared out the window as we drove home.

As soon as we pulled into the driveway, I jumped out of the car and bolted into the house and up to my room.

I sent Austin a text, letting him know I was home. A few moments later, the doorbell was ringing. I could hear my mom's voice.

"She's upstairs, in her room. Behave!" Then, footsteps that became louder as they came closer. A light knock on my door. I stood there, frozen.

"Madison?" His voice traveled through the cracks around the door. I pulled open the door, and smiled.

"What's up?" I stepped aside, and he strode in, sitting on my computer chair.

"I was talking to my mom earlier. She brought up school, and I threw out the idea that I could try public school again. She spoke with your mom, and, well...we start school next Monday. Public school..." I was shocked. I didn't want to go back to public school. I hated it more than anything.

"I'm sorry we didn't talk to you about it first. But I promise, you'll be okay. You'll have me." He stood up and I immediately became defensive. I stepped back, and furrowed my eyebrows. All of the terrifying memories from my previous years in school drifted back to haunt me. I became nauseous.

He pulled me into a tight hug.

"We'll be fine, I promise. We're in this together."
