You breathed in deeply as you saw Fred Weasley take in his final breath. Tears welled up in your eyes as his girlfriend wailed over his dead body, the entire Great Hall watching with silent respect.

His brother picked her off the ground and held her close as Mr. Weasley respectively leaned down and closed his son's eyes. A tear flew down his cheek and landed on the boy's hand as he did so.

You took in a sharp breath as Beasley continued to cry. Her cries resounded throughout the spacious hall, and you found yourself wanting to cry yourself. Instead, you turned to the girl you were actually here to comfort, Ginny, your best friend.

"Maude!" she exclaims upon seeing your figure. She lets go of Harry and runs up to you, flinging her arms around your neck. She cries softly into your hair, and you squeeze her tightly, feeling your own tear softly trickle down your cheek.

Ginny has been your best friend since diapers. Your mother, who died fighting in this battle only a few hours ago, was great friends with the Weasleys and would take you to the Burrow often when you were little. The twins were your adopted big brothers, and so you also felt shaken up by Fred's passing.

After Ginny let out the last sniffle, she pulled back to look you in the eyes, a look of sorrow and then surprise on her face.

"Oh God! Maude, I just realized you lost your mum too! Here I am, blubbering about my brother and I haven't even asked you if you're-"

"I'm fine." You cut her off, not wanting any questions, "I just want some air."

The Great Hall felt like it was slowly suffocating you as you pulled away from the ginger's embrace. You couldn't bare to be there around any more dead or injured people, and you hadn't had a good private moment to grieve for your mum since it happened. You needed time to think.

You hastily walked out of the Great Hall, but couldn't help but feel George's sad eyes on your back as you left.

You dangled your feet off the edge of the Astronomy tower, looking out to the rubble and dirt and ruins that now lay as your school. You swung them back and forth, biting your lower lip to keep from crying.

You didn't want to cry over your mother. She was always so tough on you, making sure you knew how to handle the real world and to get over stuff like break ups. You always wondered what it would be like if you had grown up with a mum who taught you how to feel your emotions.

Still, you didn't. So here you were, sitting on the edge of a ruined castle, wondering whether or not it wouldn't dishonor your mother's death to mourn her loss.

Wow, that sounds terrible.

A small tear tracks down your face and you quickly whisk it away. Suddenly, you hear footsteps behind you and you turn to see George Weasley giving you a weak smile. You smile back with a grin just as weak, and pat the ledge beside you.

He sits down, wasting no time to say what's on his mind.

"I'm sorry you lost your mum," he says in an apologetic but shaky voice, "I don't know what I'd do if I lost mum and Fred."

You turned your eyes to him and soaked in just how awful he looked. His red hair was matted with sweat, and his usual soft and mirth filled brown eyes were cold and lifeless. His cheeks were pale, illuminating every freckle, and his eyelashes were tear stained. And that was just his facial features, that didn't even begin to cover his injuries and open wounds that covered his grimy body and face.
