Rick sat in a booth that had, at one time, been 'the usual' for every Monday morning. He had a steaming hot cup of tea in front of him, and he knew that he was subconsciously trying to fold in on himself and shrink slowly down lower and lower in that booth.

On the table in front of him, inside an envelope addressed to him +1, was a glaringly white invitation, elegant and artfully done. In two months, his once best friend, a woman whom he had confessed his love for, would marry his other best friend. Initially upon receipt of said piece of paper, he had found himself a bit crestfallen but he had bounced back quickly. Now, he knew that the planets had realigned themselves and this was what was meant to be: Chris and Jenna had a son together, they were happy together, and he was destined to never be more than her friend.

And right now, he was actually okay with that. He hadn't spoken to her since the infamous birthday party fiasco wherein he ended up dragging one of his bandmates, well, his former bandmate, to the hospital kicking and screaming, but the wedding invitation signaled to him that there needed to be closure. At least for his own sake.

With all these thoughts swirling through his mind, he sipped from his large cup and watched Jenna enter the small cafe. She was dressed in tight black skinny jeans and her favorite blush pink faux leather jacket, and she raised her sunglasses onto the top of her head slowly as she scanned the nearly empty establishment. When her brown eyes landed on him, her smile widened and he felt all of his stress melt away.

She seemed to float more than walk towards him, sliding quickly into his side of the booth and wrapping him in a tight embrace. "I missed you!" she confessed with a gigantic smile. "I missed you so much but I was too much of an asshole to call you."

"Good thing I got the invitation and grew a set of balls," he chuckled while hugging her back.

Sliding back out and moving to her own side of the booth, she sighed, set her purse down beside herself and then folded her hands onto the orange tabletop. "So."

"So," he echoed her sigh. "Nice invitations, swanky."

She rolled her eyes. "You and I both know that I did NOT choose those ridiculous invitations."

"Well," he chuckled as he met her amused expression, "they certainly don't say 'Chris and Jenna' to me at all."

"Angie and Chris' mom got together about a month ago," she explained, rolling her eyes and making a series of disamused faces. "Now Chris has a ginormous bill just for paper crap, and we have a bunch of invitations, place cards, and RSVP bullshit that we both hate." She shrugged melodramatically. "Whatever, they're both tickled pink that we let them do it, so I guess it's a win."

Rick laughed. "So, I presume that this is going to be a massive shindig, huh?"
