Chapter 1

"What did you say?", Aeri shrieked as she slams her drink onto the wooden table.

"I said, I have to get married", Yura sighs as she flips through her thick History textbook blankly. She couldn't focus on her revision anymore after getting a call from her foster mother last night.

A call that changed everything.

"Kim Yura, please don't joke around. Are you kidding me?", Aeri narrowed her eyebrows as she stares at Yura, waiting for an explanation anxiously with a question mark plastered on her face.

"My mother said, she needs to claim the land, her late father's land which was included in the joined agreement she had signed with her ex-husband. She admitted she was young and dumb believing that her marriage would work thus she agreed to sign the will. But then, things happened, and they got a divorced. So now, she wants to claim the land. Therefore...." Yura's voice trails off as she breathes out a long sigh

"What...?"

"In order to claim the land, her first blood child must be legally married and—"

"YOUR MOTHER HAS A SON!? A REAL SON?", Aeri raised her voice as she slams her hands on the table, making Yura's colorful pens rolled off the table.

"Good god, calm your ass Aeri. Let me finish. And to answer your question, yes, she has a son. Her blood son which she told me that she plans to tell me about him after I graduated but things took a different turn. And now—"

"You have to marry her son? Is that it? Your mother asked for a favor and this is it?", Aeri replied sounding worried.

"She asked for a favor, but she didn't force me into this...but... Aeri, she has done so much for me. I don't think I can say no", Yura clenched her eyes shut as she breathes in heavily.

"But you are 18... how can you get married? Plus, you have only a few months before finishing school—"

"The thing is, the agreement needs to be done by the end of this month. And my mom did say she is coming over next week to settle the documents if I agree to this"

Yura stretches her arms flat on the table as she rests her head lazily on the wooden surface. She couldn't think straight, one week ago she was struggling to finish her homework and assignments and now ? She has to think about her decision in marrying a stranger to help her mother. And she found out her mother actually has a blood son which she knows nothing about, and most importantly, if she agrees to this, she would need to marry him.

How the heck does people get married without love and affection?

"But Yura, think again. I thought marriage needs both sides to agree to this. What makes you think her son agreed to this?", Aeri drums her fingers on the table as she looks at Yura.

"She said she'll talk to her son. I don't have to think about it"

"Still, you are 18 and—oh wait, you are legal, and you are marrying with the consent of your legal guardian. Oh shit, you can actually marry!?", Aeri covered her mouth as she realized her own statement.

Yura nods weakly as she forced herself to sit straight, her eyes lazily scanning her notebook as she resumes her revision . "I am good to go indeed"
