Dylan's POV:
I was sitting on a couch in a beautifully furnished room, wide-eyed in wonder at the foreign kingdom. I had never gotten the chance to visit another kingdom before and the world seemed so big in my seven-year-old eyes. The grown-ups were talking in another room and I was told to patiently wait. Suddenly the whole palace was jolted by an explosion. The doors flew open and that's the first time I saw you. You were just a year younger than me, an adorable almost-six-year-old girl wearing a navy blue dress. You worriedly looked around the room, searching for your parents.
Wait a second, let me catch my breath
Remind me how it feels to hear your voice
Your father came out of the door and immediately you latched onto his leg, a fierce fire in your eyes. Both of our mothers were rushed away and even though they wanted us in safety, you refused. I had the urge to stay back for some unknown reason but followed my gut. After our mothers left, some large men burst into the room with guns. I was scared but trusted our fathers to take care of us. I looked over to you and almost couldn't believe my eyes. It looked as if you were in flames, color and light bursting from you.
Your lips are movin', I can't hear a thing
Living life as if we had a choice
You started attacking the large men, setting their clothes on fire and beating them with your small fists. You chased them out of the room and I ran after you, out of wonder or worry I still don't know. You eventually ended up knocking them out cold. I remember seeing the smile on your face before you floated back to the ground and fell down. You looked dead, the color drained from your face and your chest almost unmoving.
Anywhere, anytime, I would do anything for you
Anything for you
I ran over to you and held my ear near your heart. I could hear a quiet tempo and sighed in relief. I carefully scooped you up in my arms and carried you out of the palace. You were as light as a feather and you looked so peaceful sleeping, it was quite cute.
Yesterday got away, melodies stuck inside your head
A song in every breath
Your mother and father rushed me after I found them and thanked me over and over for bringing you out safely. I never forgot that day.
Sing me to sleep now, sing me to sleep
Won't you sing me to sleep now? Sing me to sleep
It was almost seven years later and I was in the United States for a vacation. I still remembered the girl from the faraway kingdom that I had watched save her family. I had heard you had moved away for safety and mused I might just meet you again. Soon enough, I found out my half-hearted musings were correct. I saw you at a park with what looked like your friend. She was showing you something and you looked quite interested.
Remember me now, time cannot erase
I can hear your whispers in my mind
I wondered if you even remembered me. How could you though, we only met once when it seemed like forever ago. I decided that I would watch you over my vacation and try to get to know you from a distance. I watched how you were reserved with some people and others you were open and confident. I watched you joke and have fun. I started falling for your laugh, your smile, your confidence, your shyness, your endless expressions, your compassion and kindness. I started falling for you.
I've become what you cannot embrace
Our memory will be my lullaby
I knew I couldn't just approach you, especially if you didn't remember me. I remember going into Wattpad and looking at a new author I found. She had only two stories published, one for fun and one more serious. It was almost like her diary and she seemed so troubled. It only took the first few stories in the diary one to figure out it was you. I messaged you and voiced my support and we slowly became friends. What I didn't know was how much deeper I was getting myself into the pit I had already dug.
Sing me to sleep now, sing me to sleep
Won't you sing me to sleep now? Sing me to sleep
From the very first day of meeting you, I knew that you were an amazing and special person. I never dreamed of it happening but I ended up falling love with you, and it was so amazing that I would do it over again. Because the day that I met You, Kennedy, was a day that changed my life.
