"Do you see this?" I said incredulously, slamming a piece of paper on the dinner table.

I'd been freaking out for a while. Being forced to work in partners for a math project was bad enough--being partners with Biana? Great. That's great.

"I swear, the universe is out to get me," I told Linh, tugging on my bangs and pacing around the kitchen.

"Out to get you with Biana, maybe," Linh said calmly, picking up the assignment and looking it over. "You could ask for another partner."

"And risk upsetting her? Not going to happen." I threw myself into the chair opposite my sister and put my face in my hands. "Linh, what am I going to do?"

"First, you need to calm down," she said gently. "It's okay. Just be yourself, and don't be weird."

"Sorry to break it to you, but I can't do both," I told her, raising my head and meeting her gaze.

"Tam..." Linh's voice took on that reassuring, loving tone that I got a lot. "I don't think you realize how normal you act around her. I glanced back at you earlier to make sure you were actually okay with me leaving, and I saw you talking to Biana. You looked fine, like you did it everyday. She won't suspect a thing, as long as you keep your cool. Okay?"

I stared at her. "You're not serious."

"I am perfectly serious," she said, giving me a teasing smile that sorta undermined her statement. "You'll do fine."

I took a deep breath. "Right. Okay. I'll be fine." I paused, and groaned, letting my forehead hit the table. "I'm doomed."

Linh just laughed.
