After Cato let those old women have their way with him, pulling at his non-existent cheek fat, making his skin red as their long, painted nails scraped his slightly scruffy chin. He kept his flinches to himself.

Novah had finally found his best friend sitting on the dining table, staring off into the woods.

"What are you doing here?" Asked Novah from the boy that jumped from the intrusion. "Nothing I came here to wish Cato, he smiled at me and then all of a sudden he stormed off, looking angry...I don't know, did I do something wrong Novah?"

"He smiled at you? Wow, hearing that after a long time, did his left dimple show?" Novah had asked, looking skeptical at best. Cato? Smiling?

Since when?

To answer the question, Dox had nodded and Novah had pursed his lips. "Huh." He said.

"I'll be right with you, give me a second please." To this, Dox had frowned and watched as Novah stalked away, down the stairs.

The crowd was dimming as Novah searched for Cato.

He spotted him sitting on the love seat in the corner. He dragged a stool set for the guests and plonked down directly in front of Cato. Cato raised an eyebrow at him.

"What do you want?" He asked. "Let's talk about your mate." Novah had said. Cato was a little taken aback by the bluntness of the statement but kept a poker face nevertheless. "Let's not." He smiled, finalizing the conversation that his beta apparently wanted to discuss.

"I'm your beta, what affects you, affects me. You can trust me, me being your beta means you can entrust me with anything, I'll give you advice and follow your lead. That's what I'm here for. It's my purpose and you can't take that away from me."

Of course, Cato knew all of this, but apparently he needed to be reminded of his duties to the pack. This may be personal but having a Luna can affect the whole of the pack. He couldn't put them in harms way too, they were his family and he loved everyone even though he never quite showed it.

Cato's meek silence was enough conformation to Novah. "Is it Dox?"

Cato's eyes widened.

How did he know?

"You never smile at anyone Cato."

Cato frowned. "I do too." He said. "Not with that dimple of yours, you don't." came another voice. They both looked up quickly to see Jaques. Cato started fretting. What if his dad didn't support Dox, he was a male.

Jaques' stern expression softened as he walked and crouched next to his son.

" I saw you up there. It's okay son, you can't help who you love, if that's what you're scared about. I've raised you to be a man. I know very well why you are avoiding him. You don't want suffer my fate do you?"He chuckled. " If only it were that simple son. You can't live without him, think about it." He said and shuffled Cato's hair with his large fingers. He then proceeded to get up and walk away, deciding that that was all he needed to say.

Cato was positively dumbstruck. What just happened?

He looked back at Novah to find him smiling encouragingly at him.

"He's a lost cause, you are gonna have to work for him pal." Novah patted his shoulders and left.

Novah then saw Dox creeping his way down the stairs wearing an adorably lost expression, his green eyes darting everywhere, probably in search of his friend. They landed on Novah in a second and he sighed.

"Hey, I think I'm going to go home now." He said. Novah nodded. "I'll walk you there."

"Hey Cato! I'm just gonna go drop Dox home." He shouted across the hall and discreetly passed him a wink. Cato, who was still suffering from aftershock just nodded monotonously.

The two were at Dox's doorstep in fifteen minutes. Dox waved at Novah and went inside the comforts of his abode.

He was greeted by his brother that offered him a hug which he accepted and rushed up the stairs  to his room.

He freshened up and went to bed, wrapped in his warm blankets, his mind drifted like always.

Why was everyone behaving so weird?

That night he went to sleep thinking about a certain someone with a left dimple.
