I felt hot tears fall from my face that I quickly wiped them off. “Mom!”

“Emma!” My mom cried from the other line. I was half expecting to hear a scream like when I was on the phone with Mrs. G but my mother's voice made her sound like she was in completely safe haven.

“What's going on in there? Where are you?” My mother asked. “I'm, I'm..wait no, how about you? Where are you?” I asked her in return. “I'm at home, we heard the news Em, we are going out of our minds trying to contact you but all mobile numbers are down. We're stuck with land line now, even the internet won't connect.” She said and went on to ask me about my sister, about how bad was it, if I got out, if I had a plan, if the police came, all questions that I did not have answers to.

I stared at the others with confusion, they all looked at me with held breaths as if waiting for the bad news or some answers at least. “So.. what..what do you mean you just heard the news? Aren't there zom.. I mean, there aren't any..?” My voice was shaking. I was beginning to feel dizzy. “No Em, it's -concentrated on the City, the officials have broadcast that Lapu-Lapu is safe, I don't know how and why but that we have to stay indoors.” My mother said. I felt a wave of relief, thank you God they were safe. “Get home now Em, please.” She continued. Then I heard dad in the background, still trying to contact my sister. “Dad!” I cried, then I felt as if my mother smiled when she heard me say that. “He got back just in time, decided to buy Baygon in Robinsons instead, what a blessing.”I laughed, he sure was lucky but I couldn't help but realize how unlucky I was to be stuck in the city. “Just wait there Em, the government is on their way. I think it's safer indoors.” Dad called from behind mom. Indoors wasn't safe the building was infested with zombies and we were surrounded by open roads in risk of wandering zombies, the building didn't have much hiding places and little food supply with absolutely no weapons, then I realized, my sister, I couldn't leave her wherever I was going I had to find her. “I...I have to go back myself..and Elise! I can't leave Elise!”

As soon as I raised my voice there was movement from two tables beyond us. Mila backed up a little and Jaycee clutched his axe. “Em, are you there? Em, please be safe” My mom's voice seemed a little faint now.

“Hey mom, I'm going to call you back.” I said and cocked the handgun.

I got on my feet and stood. My senses were tingling, so this was what it was like during war. When you were anticipating the enemy. “So, uh, Em, do you know how to shoot?” Jaycee asked beside me. I turned to him. “No but I was pretty good at Time Crisis.”

Three zombies came out from the rubble, they seemed to look a little fazed. Like they were knocked over in a struggle before we came but whatever happened, they were out of their trance now and they looked hungry.

And we were the entrees.

I fired a shot and it hit the one zombie in its shoulder. “Aim for the fucking head!” Jaycee shouted, I didn't say anything, I steadied the gun and shot the motherfucker in the forehead. “Nice!” Chris said and I beamed at his compliment. The two other zombies pushed forward, jumping over tables with superhuman reflexes. Chris grabbed the telephone and hit the approaching zombie while Jaycee lunged at I with his axe. I flew sideways rolling to the floor and the other zombie threw itself on me. Now if you were ever faced with a very uncomfortable situation scratch that, because this was the oddest position to be in. Face to face with an undead creature who's mouth smelled of dead roadkill, oh and did I mention he wanted to desperately eat your face off?

I looked at the thing on top of me. “Hey wait, God, is that you Will?” I pushed with all my might to get him off as his teeth chattered. Will was a guy I used to date, they say office romances are a no-no and I admit most of them are especially when the guy turns out to be a major asshole. We hooked up after some washed out summer party only to find out he was hooking up with 2 other girls.

I know, I never learn.

Here he was on top of me, his breath still wreaked but this time it was worse than before. I wasn't ready to be zombie meat after learning my parents were still alive so I did what every girl should do.

I head banged that cheating motherfucker. As soon as he fell off I aimed the gun at him and fired.

Chris, Jaycee and Mila were looking at me in awe. “Holy Shit, that was badass” Mila cussed, this was the first time little Mila turned to some ordinary foul mouthed pirate.

“Okay kids, lets head for the basement.”
