God, how long is he going to take? Roger thought as he waited outside of the White Queen's room. He closed his eyes and sighed. Roger contemplated pacing the floor once again, but then a memory entered his train of thought. His mother gripped his arm loosely as they walked along in the large market place, his eyes wandering along the shelves and stands with people yelling out their products, trying to attract customers. His mum went to a stand selling some fresh fruits, and while he was standing in line, something caught his eye.
He tugged on his mother's sleeve and pointed to an odd looking plate with little pieces of metal on the sides. He didn't know what it was, but it interested him. "Mum, what's that?" He asked, and his mother looked at what he mentioned."Oh, that's a tambourine!" She said, looking at Roger curiously to see him looking back at her with confusion. "It makes music. You hit it with your hand and it keeps the beat of the song." She explained, and his bright blue eyes lit up.
"Can I have it Mum?" He asked excitedly, to see his mother look at the price and her expression dim a bit. Roger watched as his mother thought about the purchase for a while, until she nodded with a small smile."You better play it, Roggie!" She said happily when she handed Roger the instrument after negotiation with the tambourines seller. He smiled widely and started to hit it with his palm, making his own rhythm. He looked up occasionally at his mother, watching as she observed him dance around and play. Roger had never seen such joy in her eyes.
Roger was awaken from his trance by the sound of a door opening, and he blinked away the slight tears as he came to face the White Queen.
"Oh- hello, Bri." Roger said a little awkwardly, he had forgotten where in the world he was for a short time. The White Queen looked at him with sharp, but kind eyes, before smiling. "Good to see you too, Rog."Roger chuckled a little before standing up straight and walking up to the Queen and hugging him. The Queen accepted the hug and kissed the top of his guards head, sighing a little in contempt.
"Why'd you call me to your room? Sounds awfully suspicious, if you ask me." Roger joked against His Queen's chest, looking up at him after a second. The Queen rolled his eyes and smiled playfully, ruffling Roger's hair as he spoke. "I just wanted to spend some time with you. It's been a while since we've had 'you and me' time."
"Eh, makes enough sense." Roger shrugged and stepped away from The Queen, entering his majesty's room and plopping on the bed, only to be followed shortly by The White Queen himself.Roger looked around, soon noticing an unfamiliar mirror in the corner of the room. It was decorated with different symbols and gems, and was black in color, with his reflection looking rather murky in the glass. He pointed to it and asked, "What's that for?" The White Queen's eyes lit up in interest when he heard the question. "It's a special mirror I got from the fairy feller a few weeks ago." The White Queen strolled over to the mirror and looked at it with his keen eyes. "Catch this- you can analyze the galaxy from this!" He smiled widely, and before Roger could call bull, he tapped the four gems on the mirror in a certain pattern, and the mirror lit up in an insane purple light.
"Wow." Roger breathed out in astonishment, as small white dots and purple, blue and black splotches spread out from the center of the glass, covering the mirror like a painting. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" The White Queen whispered, his wild curly hair being lit up by the colored lights. "Yeah." Roger mumbled in agreement, standing up to get a closer look at the stars.
After a while of talking about the mirror and joking around with each other, the couple were sitting on the bed, just enjoying each other's company. The Queen laid his head on Roger's shoulder, startling the guard for a second before he relaxed again.
"I love you, Rog.." The Queen whispered.
Roger was taken aback by this, even though he had heard it a hundred times before.
It just shocked him, that he had captivated his Queen's heart. And the Queen had his as well.
"I love you too, Bri."Just when all was quiet, there was a knock on the door. Roger got up from the bed and opened the door. In front of him was a servant girl, clutching a letter and breathing heavily from running.
"How can I help you?" Roger asked, and the Servant girl stuttered. "T-this letter is f-for his Majesty, sir." She said, looking down and shoving the letter into Roger's hands before she ran away. Roger shrugged and closed the door, tossing the piece of paper to The Queen and sitting back down next to him."What was that about?" The White Queen asked, picking up the letter curiously.
"I don't really know, but the letters addressed to you." Roger replied, watching as the Queen unfolded the letter and began to read. Roger enjoyed the sight until The Queen's face went pale.
"Bri? What does it say?" He asked, and the Queen looked up at him with wide eyes before he handed Roger the letter.
Roger was confused, of course, but The Queen soon spoke.
"Read it for yourself.."Hello your majesty,
It has come to my attention lately that the Black Queen may be planning to go to war with your kingdom. I want to warn you, because I think that this war would be an awful idea.. I know that you know Freddie personally, so if you could try and convince him to stop this, that'd be the best possible option. I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen. Please, prepare yourself and your kingdom- The city of the fireflies is quite powerful, militarily wise. If you have any questions, please contact me again- but make it secretive. Best of wishes, J.D.Roger couldn't believe what his eyes had just scanned over. "W-what? This has to be a joke. Why would Fred do this?!" He said, panic flooding through his veins.
"We have to take this seriously, Rog. As much as I wouldn't like to think about it.. Freddie isn't under the best influence. We couldn't let a warning like this slip through the cracks- my kingdom is at stake." Roger let all of this sink in, closing his eyes and folding his arms over his chest. And thus, my day is ruined, He thought. He opened his eyes when he felt The White Queen get up from the bed, watching as he walked over with grace to the desk. Roger couldn't help watch as The Queen sat down, pulled out some parchment and started to write. After a few minutes of silence, the Queen stood up with a new letter in his hand.
He went over to Roger, grabbed his chin and kissed him quickly, anxiousness in his breath. The White Queen then stood up straight and walked over to the door. Before he could leave, though, Roger went up and hugged him tightly, before letting go and watching as The White Queen looked back with weak assurance in his eyes. "Love you." The Queen said before opening the door and strolling out, his long white shirt looking almost like angel wings behind him. And they were both alone.
