Vivir

I was in a good mood. It was finally my birthday. Finally.

My parents were going to let me go to the market with my father, it would be my first time leaving my house in ages! Of course, I would have to keep my hood pulled down over my face, and I was forbidden to say so much as a single word to anybody.

But still, ever since I came here I have been able to venture only a few feet from my  house, and I have longed to interact with some other people for a change.

I skipped over to my closet and brought  out my new cloak. My mother had had it made specially for me, and I absolutely loved it. It was a beautiful purple colour, so dark it was almost black, and it was expensive material, making it soft to the touch.

Once I had on my cloak, I did up my necklace around my neck, making sure that it was hidden beneath my clothes. My necklace, a small sapphire on a thin silver chain, was given to me by my mother when I was just a baby, and I hardly ever took it off.

                                                                 *....*....*

I cling to my fathers back as our horse galloped through the forest. It was exhilarating, though I felt like I was going to fly off.

My stomach grumbled and I regretted not eating breakfast, but my father assured me that our first stop would be the bakery where I could pick out anything I liked. My mouth watered just thinking about it. I would probably get a muffin. Or some buttered bread. Or some pastries, it was my birthday, after all. Or I could always get-

"Vivir" My father said, breaking me out of my thoughts "Pull down your hood, we're nearing the village."
