Vivir

My father grabs me by the hand and drags me out of the store, I want desperately to go back in and talk to the girl, but I know it is dangerous. By now word will have spread about the two witches.

No doubt the village wants us dead. They're probably starting to look for us now.

"Vivir," my father starts, taking my shoulders in his hands and turning me so that I am looking at him. "Run back to the house, tell mother what happened and stay in your room. Don't worry, I will take care of this."

She I look up at his face, the look in his eyes catches me off guard. It was fear. My father was scared. Of me.

And that's when I realize. I can never really go back home. I know that if the village thinks I'm a witch, there won't be much my father can do. And, truthfully, even if I do survive, I'm not sure my parents would want me there anymore. My father was scared of me.

Before I could think too hard about it, i spin around and run in the direction of our house, but once I'm out of my father's line of sight, I pause and reach to touch my necklace.

I could have sworn it had gotten warm when I'd seen the girl, and moments later, that strange light had connected our hands.

Suddenly, a thought occurred to me. The necklace sometimes got a little warm when I was around my mother. I'd just dismissed it as nothing. But today it had gotten fairly hot. And that beam of light.... that was nothing normal.

That girl was probably a Traisa.

There had to be something special about my necklace. It probably warmed up when there were Traisa close by. But it had gotten warm when I was with my mother..... Well, I guess that explained how she'd gotten the necklace, but, she'd been with me my whole life, and I'd never seen her do anything magical. What was her power?

Ugh. My head was spinning with all this information. I had to decide what to do.

So I veered of into the woods. I planned to wait till night, then head back to the bakery to talk to the girl.
