"Freya?".
Calum entered the vacant library.
"Are you alone?" He asked.
Nodding, I beckoned him over.
"I think I'm ready to tell you what happened to me...". He shifted uncomfortably.
"Cal, you don't have to.z" I laid a reassuring hand in his leg.
"I want to." He looked into my eyes, looking the most serious I had ever seen him.
"I was five years old. I was playing with my older sister, Mali, by a river. We were running across the bank, which happened to be slippery. As we were running, I slipped. As I fell down the side of the bank, my head hit a rock and knocked me unconscious. As I was unconscious, that means I couldn't swim. So, I drowned. Mali had to run home get out parents, who had to call the police to get me out of the river. But, there was now hope. I was dead.".
His phantom tears left an invisible stain on my shirt.
"I'm so sorry Cal..".
"It's okay.. Now that I'm a guardian, I get to make sure no one else has to go through this.".
I was too busy comforting him to remember what Dad had said to me. Once I remembered, I and to ask.
"My Dad said only people who got murdered became guardians...".
Calum looked up at me again. His eyes looked like the ones of the five hear old her was inside.
"That's the thing. People say that.... Mali pushed me.".
Collectively, I'm sure both of out hearts broke.
"That's terrible...".
I didn't know what to say to him.
Murdered by his own sister?
Wait; that means my mum was murdered.
How?
I didn't have long to wonder, because with a massive crash and bang, the school went dark.
