Cole was sweating. He'd had the dream again. He removed his bedsheet and then proceeded to his morning routine. He did a couple of yoga stretches, and a few exercises before heading downstairs for breakfast.
"Morning Zane, breakfast smells amazing. What's cooking?" Cole asked as he entered the kitchen.
"You're up early. The others aren't awake yet so I thought I'd prepare breakfast beforehand. And it's sausage and egg muffins today, with toast if you want it." Zane greeted him with his usual smile. Cole sat down at the table, his head hurting badly.
"Sounds great, you wouldn't mind getting me a cold drink would you Zane? My heads hurting a lot." Cole asked, resting his head on his hand. Zane did so promptly, bringing Cole a few painkillers as well.
"Have you been feeling alright recently Cole? I can't help but noticed you've been a bit off, not acting yourself really." he questioned, watching Cole take the tablets. Cole nodded.
"Just not really sleeping well." he muttered.
"Strange, you usually sleep like a rock." Zane winked as he carried on with breakfast. Cole heard the alarm go off upstairs and a loud groan he knew had come from Jay. He chuckled, taking another sip of his water. Kai was the first come downstairs, still in his pyjamas and yawning, his hair like a bird's nest. Lloyd followed behind, also surprised to see Cole up so early.
"We were gonna let you sleep in, but never mind." Lloyd took a seat next to him. He looked rather tired as well, instead of their usual twinkle, Lloyd's eyes were dull and sullen.
"You not sleeping well either?" Cole asked, as he watched Nya walk down the stairs in her dressing gown. Lloyd shook his head, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
"Hardly got any last night." he sighed. Once Jay finally came downstairs, Zane handed out the food giving everyone a smile and greeting them. When Cole had finished, he cleaned his plate and then proceeded back to his bedroom to get changed.
"I'm going out once I've got dressed, there's somewhere I want to go." he explained. Lloyd let out a grunt of approval through a mouthful of food, as Cole disappeared into the shadow of the hallway. After Cole got dressed, he stood on his balcony for a bit, listening to the whistling of the wind. He closed his eyes for a moment and allowed the soft breeze to stroke his face, breathing in the fresh sea air. Cole sighed and put on a sweater before jumping off the balcony. His elemental dragon appearing just before he hit the ocean surface.
"Took your time." he chuckled as they flew off. Cole wasn't the only one at the graveyard when he'd got there. A man was standing at his mother's grave, wearing a black, leather trench coat. He did the only natural thing he could think of and hid. They were just standing there, unaware of what was going on around them. Finally they lifted their head, pressing a finger to their ear.
"I'll be on the look out." It was a male voice, low and husky, laced with a sharp accent, reminding him a little of Hutchins. He made his way out, his face showing just enough for Cole to get a good look at him. The man's iris's were glowing silver; his hair swept back into an undercut, where the sides of his face had strange patterns shaved into them, a combination of black and red. The gate shut behind him and Cole slowly proceeded to his mother's grave. Ten years. Ten years since she had passed. The guilt had started to twist his stomach again, just like it had when he'd discovered what had happened. He knew he shouldn't feel this way. Heck he was twelve what could he have done? He sat down just before where her feet would have been and stared at the headstone for a while. It read, 'Cassandra May Brookstone, loving wife and mother.' underneath, 'there are many flowers in the field, you are the rose, ignore the weeds,'. His mother's last words to him. Cole tried not to think about it, but it was all he could. After about thirty minutes more, he finally stood up, gave the grave one last look and turned to leave.
