Cole was sat on the couch as Zane and Nya tended to his wounds, wincing even at the slightest touch.
"Why didn't you call for help?" Zane inquired, whilst wrapping soft linen around his arm, securing it in place with a pin. Cole had been silent ever since they returned home. Anger allied with fear and guilt, twisting his insides. He shrugged, standing up.
"Hey we're not finished with you yet, get your ass back on that couch." Nya pushed Cole down. He obeyed, knowing he shouldn't get on the wrong side of Nya, but he could tell she was already frustrated with him. He obeyed, staring off into the distance, not making eye contact with either of them. Questions battled in his mind, waiting to be answered. He had none. Who was Redback? Why didn't he react how he thought he should have after teleporting? What did he have to do with all of- Something pricked the back of his neck, or well, felt like it, which startled him, knowing Zane and Nya were tending to him on other parts of his body. He jumped out of his seat, crying out and turning around to see no one behind him. He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a strange heat emit from it. He heard Nya let out a loud grunt as Zane looked at him curiously. Nya furiously jabbed a finger at him, then to the couch. Again he obeyed.
"Are you alright?" Zane asked, securing another bandage.
"I-I'm not sure. I thought I felt-" Cole wasn't sure how to put it. Or if he could say at all. After Nya had finished with his stitches he left for his room, locking the door behind him. He didn't care about the rest of his wounds. All he wanted were answers, but he didn't have a clue where to get them. He really had nobody to turn to this time. Kai he had for building up his confidence, Jay for a good laugh and more personal stuff, Zane he had for a real shoulder to 'cry' on when he had a serious issue, Nya he had for girl advice seeing as he wouldn't be able to trust the others with that information also if he wanted to heighten his confidence and Lloyd for, well... He wasn't sure, he never really talked to Lloyd about anything personal, not that he couldn't trust him... He just felt more comfortable with the others. Then there was Wu. Wu had the most information about his mother since they'd known each other well, though she never really spoke about him. Maybe he could get a little bit more out of him now a relic from her past just so happened to attack him. Again. Why does this always lead to her? What was so significant about her that he had to get involved in past conflict- He had been pricked again. He spun round again to catch who was doing it. But just like last time, no one was there. Baffled, he sighs, taking out a picture of his mother he kept in his uniform pocket. It was one of the only few that he still had left. His father was absent so much of the time when she was alive. They were left to do all the housework and spend time with each other. They were each other's priority. When he'd found her... He thought he'd lost everything- There it was again, that something that pricked the back of his neck.
"Stop it!" he yelled angrily, in hopes that it would. He felt the back of his neck again, expecting to feel blood but there was nothing there. He sighed and sat down, staring at the picture. He allowed a few tears to fall as he looked into her eyes, the same amber as his, wishing he could have saved her, wishing he could have been there when it happened. There came a knock at the door.
"Cole you okay?" the muffled voice of Jay came from the other side. Cole stood up, stuffing the picture back into his uniform pocket and unlocking the door, only slightly opening it.
"Not exactly." Cole replied, he then thought for a moment. "Come inside a sec."
He pulled Jay in, and stood him in the centre of the room.
"What are you trying to accomplish here?" Jay asked, perplexed.
"Trying to prove a point to myself." Cole waited. The room was silent as they both waited for something to happen. The thing pricked his neck again. So it wasn't an insect. He was the only target.
"Now what?" Jay raised his eyebrows as he crossed his arms. Cole turned his back to Jay.
"Do I have a mark or anything on the back of my neck? I keep on being pricked by something sharp." Cole waited as Jay looked.
"Huh, since when did you have a tattoo?" Jay asked, brushing his fingers against the marks wobbling slightly on his tiptoes.
"I don't?" Cole replied, feeling the back of his neck again. Jay fell back onto his heels as Cole turned back round.
