"Suppose your mother didn't tell you about her past then?" the strange man in the trench coat hissed, as other people started jumping down from the wall, surrounding him. Cole froze and stepped back a little, dumbfounded.
"No, I'm assuming there was something she wasn't telling me?" Cole folded his arms, aware he was completely surrounded. The man laughed.
"Smart lad." he smirked. "And I suppose you're wondering how you fit into all of this?
"You say suppose a lot," Cole raised his eyebrows. "Enlighten me."
"Let's just say, being the son of the spy that destroyed our lives doesn't make you that much of a hero no matter how many times you've saved this god forsaken realm." the man's smirk turned into an evil glare. Cole looked down, the group around him kept their distance, waiting for their call. He sighed.
"Look, my Mom wasn't really the type of person to try and ruin someone's life intentionally, I'm not here to hurt anyone." Cole tried to make his way out, but the man stopped him, standing in his way.
"I'm not done with you yet kid." the man attempted to push him back. Cole didn't move.
"Do you really want to start with me bud?" Cole raised his eyebrows, cracking his knuckles. One of the man's friends went to step in, but a woman held him back.
"Leave it Johnson, let Javan have his fight." the woman smirked.
"So, the names Javan?" Cole took a couple of steps back, stretching.
"Redback to you." Javan snarled as Cole lunged for him. Javan thrust his hand out as Cole got close enough, making him fall back, almost on top of his mother's grave.
"Now that wasn't remotely nice." Cole picked himself up.
"Well, don't start a fight you can't finish." Redback shrugged, getting into a fight pose. Cole does the same, looks around at the other graves.
"Do you think we should do this elsewhere? Allow the dead to rest in peace?" Cole insisted, motioning towards the graves. Redback raised his eyebrows and then shrugged.
"You have a point." Redback walked towards Cole, who took a few steps back. Redback managed to grab hold of his jacket and suddenly they weren't in the graveyard anymore, the park where Zane's statue still stood. Cole felt he shouldn't be used to what had just happened, a sudden urge to vomit that didn't happen. He stood dumbfounded, what just happened? Redback wasn't the least bit surprised. He watched as Redback's friends appeared in a red dust cloud around them. 'They can teleport? Great!' he thought as they resumed their fight. Redback was first to attack, his clan cheering him on."Where do you think Cole went?" Jay asked Lloyd half way through training.
"Beats me, I trust him though." Lloyd sounded unsure. Cole had been gone for at least an hour and he was starting to get worried. What if something had happened to him?
"What's wrong Lloyd?" Jay took a few more punches at the punching bag he was using.
"I can't help but to worry, it's not like him to be out this long, he'd usually be back by n-" a loud cheer came from below. Curious, they looked down overboard. Jay gasped as he watched Cole and Javan fighting in the centre of a circle of people. A few more appeared every now and then in a cloud of red dust to watch the fight. Kai came running out onto the deck and joined them.
"It's on the news, Cole looks badly hurt, whoever this guy is, isn't a friend of his." Kai explained.
"Yeah clearly," Jay said. "We gotta help him!"
Kai grunted in agreement, and went to fetch Zane and Nya who were making a few adjustments to the Bounty. Lloyd noticed one of the clan members look up and spot them.
"Boss! The ninja has backup!" They pointed up at the sky to where the Bounty was. Redback looked up too, throwing a near unconscious Cole to the side. The anchor was lowered nearby and the others slide down it as fast as they could, Lloyd shooting an energy blast at Redback, who teleported just before it hit him. Baffled, Lloyd runs towards Cole, who was struggling to stand up. Lloyd tried to help him but Cole shrugged him off.
"I can handle it." he wiped blood from his lip, looked at the stain and then took a step backwards.
"No you can't. Not alone." Lloyd put his hand on Cole's shoulder, who again shrugged it off.
"Thanks partner." he looked around, watching as Javan's friends disappear again, just as he did. The others made their way down the anchor, curious, but concerned. Cole sighed.
"What happened?" Jay asked.
"Just a little blast from my mother's past by the looks of it." Cole explained, looking down.
