Chapter Eight: Tell Me The Truth

Things haven't been going very well lately.

First, my best friend acts strange. Then, I find out he's gay and likes me. And then, I deny all feelings for him and try to get things back to normal. Next, I make a bad move and charge at my greatest enemy and disappoint my friend. Then, my friend hangs out with my enemy and I make the wrong move of confronting and spying on them. Then, my best friend yells at me and says that his feelings for me don't exist anymore and that he doesn't want to be my friend.

This chain of events is what led to me staying home from school, sitting on my bed, staring at the wall, thinking of all the things that went wrong.

Why do I even care? Maybe I'm better off without him.

But I'm not.

Maybe Jackson was just trying to be friendly. Maybe Jaebum needed a little change of pace and wanted to try and make a new friend, even if that new friend wasn't to my liking.

But unfortunately, I screwed things up before I could understand the situation and now I'll never know the truth.

Unless I try to find it.

That's it!

I'll just talk to one of them and figure things out and fix them!

But that's easier said than done, so I'll have to break this into more manageable chunks.

First things first, I'll have to talk to them.

Jaebum hyung?

Not such a good idea.

Jackson?

Still a bad idea, but that's my only other option. Who knows? Maybe we'll work it out and I'll find out why he hates me so much. Or maybe not.

I waited until school was over and I peeked out my window. I could see Jaebum and Jackson walking home together.

Once Jaebum went inside his own home, and Jackson started walking towards his own home as well, I rushed outside and approached him.

"Jin...young?" Jackson asked me as he saw a figure jogging up to him. "What the fuck do you want?"

I caught my breath, looking up at Jackson. "Look, we need to talk."

"Cute, but I don't think so," Jackson said, beginning to walk away.

I stood in front of him so he couldn't leave. "Please. It's important."

Jackson rolled his eyes as he sat down on a nearby bench. "You've got 3 minutes."

"What happened? That day when I accused you of shit," I said, sitting next to him. "When you and Jaebum hyung were...hanging out."

"I don't know, we were just hanging out. What's your deal?"

I ran my fingers through my hair. "I just...why do you hate me? Like, how did this all start?"

Jackson scoffed. "Is that even a legitimate question?"

I straightened my back. "Yes. It is. I want to know everything. All of it. So tell me the truth."

"Don't you remember?"

"I really don't."

Jackson let out a sigh before telling the story. "It all started in the spring of sixth grade, when you moved to our middle school...."

*Flashback*

Jackson and Jaebum were laughing as they scattered into the classroom after coming in from recess.
