It was just that vibe he got especially since he noticed how quiet it was. He took a step forward cautiously and was about to call out for Nathan when he thought better of it. No.
If there was someone in the house, he would immediately alert them
Silently, he tiptoed over to the kitchen. The dishes must have been done as they now lay on the drying rack. The waffle iron, however, was clumsily wiped with Clorox and he figured that Kat must have done it. His eyes darted around, searching for any sign of movement, as his hands groped around for the handle of the drawer where they kept the knives.
The rolling noise was enough to make him cringe, until finally, it was enough to let him reach in, and take out a knife.
The living room first, he thought. His heart pounded, and he jumped at non-existent sounds. How could someone have broken in? And while he was away as well? His grip tightened on the handle.
When he turned the corner, he stopped, staring in shock.
. . .
They were going to drag her to a cabin in the woods after knocking her out, and then lock the doors. Then, they'll beat her half to death and torture her in the worse way possible before tearing out her throat with their teeth and chopping up her body into bite-sized pieces and eating her.
An active imagination could do wonders for a person.
The window had been broken by a jagged rock that had chipped the coffee table. Shards of glass were everywhere as if it had been thrown in, and books and papers were strewn all over the floor. Not enough for her to call it a complete mess, but enough to look like they had been looking for something.
A rolling sound came from the kitchen, making chills run up her spine. She swallowed a scream, as her body trembled, unable to think. The monsters that had her tied could be back again. She stared at the corner in which something could turn around and see her, in terror, wondering what else could happen.
The footsteps came closer, and the soft thud made her fear shoot up through the roof. A foot came into view first and she flinched away.
It was Malik.
She swallowed a lump in her throat as relief washed over her. The lingering fear was still there but at least now she knew that he could help. She watched as his eyes went wide, staring at the state of his living room as he clutched a knife. "Malik!" she called out, but "Mmhmm!" came out instead. At least it still drew his attention.
His head turned and his eyes widened when he saw the state she was in. "Kat!" He rushed over and fell to his knees next to her, brushing away her hair from her face as he tried to cut through the rope with his knife. "What happened?!"
She struggled even more, as he tried to saw through the ropes. He was here, thank goodness for that.
But out of the corner of her eyes, she spotted something, and her heart nearly stopped. No... "What's wrong?" he asked, noticing the sudden lack of movement. She screamed, trying to get him to notice the monster behind him, as it raised a club with nails hammered into it.
He quickly dropped the knife and tried to untie the gag around her mouth. "Kat, did they give something to you?" He tried yanking the gag off, but she flinched away and shrieked louder as the monster swung it down. "Kat, please let me help you-" It slammed into his head throwing him to the ground with a grunt.
She shrieked through her gag as she struggled around in the ropes even more, unable to think. Her eyes stared at him in horror, watching him bleed from his head, lying still on the floor. This couldn't be happening.
