A red streak dashed across her line of sight. A fist connected with Violet's jaw, sending her flying back.

And she was left there, adrenaline running through her body, gasping and panting in disbelief. Jack tackled the woman to the ground slamming her even further into the pavement, as he grabbed the barrel of the gun.

"Get Nick away from here!" he shouted, as he struggled with her.

She reached out for him; her legs can't move, and she crawled. Her heart sunk further into the ground as she drew closer to him. How could she have let this happen? He couldn't go like this. Not now. Her hands managed to grab ahold of his wrist and she pulled her into him. "Nick!" She could barely breathe. "No, no, no, please!" She shook him, but he remained limp in her arms, his face, drained of all color and deathly pale. This was her brother, her family- "Please, wake up..." Her voice broke, and she clung onto him harder. To see someone as strong as him, so weak in her arms...

"Kat!" Jack's desperate screams whipped her head up. "Go!"

Clenching her teeth, she slung his arm over her shoulders and struggled to her feet, spotting an alley not too far ahead. Refuge. The limp over was the most agonizing thing she ever had to do, wondering with each step if that would be the moment he would stop breathing. Her mind scattered.

Finally they got in, she quickly lowered him down against the wall. "If you can hear me-" She pressed her hand up against his forehead. He was burning. "Please stay with me." Nothing could come to her mind, her head, clouded and foggy with despair. "Wake up, please!" She shook him harder but still, his eyes remained closed.

"Hey!" She looked up. Down the other side, she recognized the deep and masculine voice. Relief flooded into her. Malik came running, his eyes wide with panic as he spotted Nick on the ground in her arms. "Oh my god."

He pulled her into a tight hug. She could hear it. His heart pounding inside his chest, leaving it lingering behind as he took his hands off and turned to Nick. "What happened to him?"

"There was an explosion and he was running towards it and..." She can't breathe. "I don't know if he's alive, please, help him!"

"He probably is, don't worry." He slipped his arms underneath him and lifted him up. "We gotta hurry back if he's going to make it." He managed to open one hand and from it, a white mist slipped out.

It swirled around in front of them, forming into the shape of a dragon until it took it's material form. It's white scales shimmered in the glow of the sun, and she climbed on, with one hand holding onto him, and the other, onto Malik. He snapped the reins and it took off into the sky. She felt weightless, and the buildings below quickly disappeared. The sky met her eyes and she found their ship in the distance not too far away.

"What happened to him?"

"The warehouse was rigged. He was at the entrance when the place exploded."

"Shit," he murmured under his breath.

"Why? Is he going to be okay?"

He didn't speak for a moment. "If you say he was at the entrance when it happened, then he could be bleeding internally at this moment."

Her grip tightened around Nick's shoulder. "We can't let him die," she murmured. "He's my brother. I'm his Mei. He can't die."

"He won't." There was a sort of resolve in his voice as the words left him but even she could tell that he was uneasy.

He steered the dragon down onto the ship where they let him slip into Tori's arms. "We need to get him inside quick. Kat, help me." She did so without hesitation, and they carried him below deck, all her thoughts on him. "Please don't let him die," she pleaded with her.
